My first M- one MONTH in…

bigwinn

Lifer
Lincoln UK
I finally committed and bought one!

I am the proud owner of this car- which has been around the forum a bit. I was just about to start a conversation when Garrie bought it toward the end of 2024... knowing Garrie likes to change cars I did say when he was ready I would happily step in...

Fast forward to March and we swapped over, my Coupe for the Z4M. I loved the Coupe so it was a bit of a gamble, and said I'd not sell that, but having countless Z4's it felt daft to not have actually owned an M.

I have to say at this point a big thank you to everyone who got bored of my endless questions and 'what abouts'- you know who you are and I really appreciate your time and input- a long and distinguished list.

So- how has week one been.

A f**king blast that's what!

I cant believe I didn't do it sooner, its a sublime drive.

The ride (eibachs) is very forgiving and much less harsh than I expected. The power output still makes me go a little weak at the knees. Its very different to the coupe which you could just jump in and drive, but the reward is so much more.

Every time I get out of it I look back and smile. Every drive has a smile. Lincolnshire has some great roads and I look forward to making the most of them with the top down- I missed that on the coupe for sure!

As its fairly stock I intend to keep it that way, I do have it planned for rod bearings next month. There are a few other little jobs to do just to keep my OCD in check... but just look at it! If like me you are thinking 'should I', don't think just do it- life is too short.

Stuart

Glad you're enjoying it mate

Those exhaust tips still haven't turned up from Nuts but when they do I'll give you a shout.

Thank you!!

Loving it- a little too much

Good to hear, it is not a car for short drives, you have to keep the cold horse under control whilst it is cold (about 10 miles), after that - the gearbox losens up and so does the engine. I have the Eventuri air intake in mine and that does give an additional level of top-down aural orgasms

You have been bewitched by the beast. No going back now. As PVR says always get the engine properly warm before you unleash it.

Enjoy.. :driving: 8)

I bought one (a MC) on a whim 18 months ago. It’s a cracking car. Ever so slightly scary. Not just to drive but to see if it will make it home. That’s because it’s still on the naughty step for throwing a red warning light 90 mins after I had bought it and numerous other minor faults when I started to dig deep. But I still intend to take it to southern Spain in May. As it’s a hoot. It’s surprising how cheap these are to buy and parts supply and maintenance is good (but not always that cheap). But proper cars are never cheap to run. Enjoy it.

There’s no other Z4 like it. I sold my beautiful Imola one last summer and soon started having regrets. Having collected PVRs one for him from Northumberland last December I decided to have a look around and ended up buying one from Leicester. I haven’t driven it since collecting it as I’ve been enjoying driving my 35i which is now up for sale.

HI Ed, you might have sold your beautiful Imola, but rest assured your Aero's were put to good use

As good as the 3.0Si is the M just takes everything to another level, as you have found out this week Stuart.

Are you planning to do the bearing shells yourself, or using a good Indy?

It makes sense to have new ones to avoid having sleepless nights, then you just have to be patient until the engine is up to temperature before getting the pedal to the metal - which has to be done as it is so addictive!

Congratulations Stuart. Looks absolutely stunning. By the time you have gone over it and corrected and replaced whatever you perceive as needing attention. It will make a great buy for the next owner. :D :D :)

Glad you are enjoying it mate, it is a big jump isn’t it 😉there’s nothing like them.

I had sort of forgotten how much better they were, but being back in one again - I have used the M more than the SI in a year

I said based on the road tax I need to get my moneys worth out of it! What a great problem to have!

Have a local garage set to do the shells, for a reasonable price all things considered

Couple of little other things to do but that’s half the fun!!

Appreciate your insight bud!
