My plan was to keep my current 6,000 mile G29 M40i when the PCP matures in February 2025, settling the 'balloon' payment, making this the sensible decision of a 75-year old deciding on no more new cars in later life.
Settlement agreed, finance meeting with supplying Dealer and resolve to resist the siren call of "...have I considered a new one... we'll give you a good trade in on yours... we have some special dealer offers and BMW contributions on new LCI M40i Z4s...". So, no harm in listening to what they have to say/financial offer, I thought.
A week later (possibly under hypnosis
, I don't know) I've ordered one, identical spec to current - not very original I know but I'm perfectly happy with my chosen combination of colour, trim, packs etc., delivery in mid-March; the timing is important as I don't want to get clobbered by the punitive 100% increase in initial VED from April 1st.
All for only ยฃ2k more than my current G29's discounted total cost three years ago and a monthly payment ยฃ150 less than now. I was initaiily suspicious that there might be a gotcha in the quote and calculations but a second opinion confirms not.
So why the change of heart (aside form the hypnosis)? To keep my current car beyond three years involves obvious ongoing franchised dealer outlay such as telematics subscriptions, insured warranty, MoTs, costly four-year service etc. which is inbuilt in a new car under warranty. There are other personal financial considerations too but that might involve Pol*tics
.
Clearly there are some deals to be negotiated; the downturn in the German Automotive sector and slump in demand for EVs
may have some bearing on this: https://gmk.center/en/news/sentiment-in-the-german-auto-industry-continues-to-deteriorate/
