New Mini

So Mrs Kerhuna ordered a new Mini yesterday. Delivery expected in six to eight weeks because of the specification. Fantastic ( not so small ) car. Demonstrator was terrific to drive with very nippy go-kart handling. Not sure if my Zed will keep up on a twisty back road !!

I ordered a Cooper S....and get it week 16.....great specs.....lot of money for Mini though....£26k. ...

When I got my cooper S in 2002 at launch it cost me £18k which seemed a lot but every time I look at a price list to spec the same now would ridiculous! Great cars though

What model did you go for my wife got a 63 plate in november great fun to drive thinking of getting a cooper s for myself

Dealer loaned me a MINI One diesel last time the Zed was in and had forgotten what a hoot they are to drive, however it rattled inside and then I remembered why I got rid of my Cooper S. The build quality can spoils these cars which is a shame as I would still consider one if BMW could sort it :(

Tim.

Build quality is much improved over previous models...the demo really seemed well put together. Specification highlights include (so I'm told) head up display, traffic sign recognition and parking assist (but I'll take some convincing to use that!) :?

I had a poke around one at the weekend and material quality was significantly up on the R56 models.

My R53 was great but rattly. The R56's I've been in seemed better put together but in cheaper materials. The new one seemed to be quite high spec in materials and was allegedly still sub £19k according to the info sheet.

The Mini Paceman Cooper S Works I also sat in was still cheap materials and was a £29k car

The news ones are great, and still keeping the Z, just liked the new interiors and the Cooper S is now a 2.0....and pretty nippy. Still has the awful torque steer, but still a very solid well put together car, and to be honest more solid than an E89 in terms of build quality

I agree.
I had a test drive in a new Cooper S Countryman a couple of weeks ago as we were thinking of changing the wife's Q5 for something a little smaller.
She had a Cooper for 6 years before the Audi and loved every mile in it, but I have to say I was very disappointed in the Countryman. Very cheap rattley plastic everywhere, and very expensive for what you get.
If we do swap the Q5 it will be for the new A3, which isn't much more than the Countryman, but loads better build quality.

I must admit I have never been that keen on the Mini but I had a Cooper d as a loaner & I did enjoy the way it drove but because the car was relatively small it made the engine sound even worse than it probably is & some of the other Mini models are a little challenging on the eyes shall we say!

They are expensive for what they are but much like the Audi TT people pay it for the fashion statement side of things I always think rightly or wrongly a bit like a nice handbag...not that I use handbags!! but they both appeal to ladies & I felt a bit of a clown driving the Mini same as I do my Mrs's TT.

If you read the review in Autocar last week, the refinement and lack of noise inside the cabin are meant to be very good....can't wait to get it

I am sure the petrol model is fine I just found the diesel that I drove to be very unrefined but the Mini does just seem to get better & better & its a sales success for good reason... unlike the E89 :poke:

Haha I still love my E89.....and the review was on the Cooper D! Got to be good for over 50 mpg I'm sure. The One D has a figure of 80mpg, but we all know the claimed is never a reality.

I love the E89 too

I just don't like four pot diesels much to be honest I hated the one in my 520d I found that noisy & unrefined & I would have thought the 5 series had plenty of sound deadening too, but for all a 4 pot diesels flaws you do get cheap running costs so you cant have it both ways I suppose.

Is the new one not a three pot?
Now you are winding me up!!

I have just checked you are correct it is a 3 pot

My 520d helped me realise in the engine stakes that you always get what you pay for...I will be staying well away from a 3 pot mini engine!! :o

All joking aside I bet its a great engine as long as you don't care much about driving & want 200 mpg!!

Not keen on the latest mini. My mrs has had the last mini r56 model and the model before this. However, the front on this i believe is a bit hit and miss for me.

Three pot hmmmm i like it. My Triumph street triple was a 3 pot and that was awesome. The new BMW i8 is a 3 pot and that will be awesome. Mught have to test drive one to see if it sounds any different/ any better than the previous models

The 3 pot Ford Ecoboost engine is very highly rated too, in all fairness it is incredible what can be achieved nowadays with so little.

The 3cyl engine in the MINI will be the first engine to appear in the new 2 Series Active Tourer due in Sept, I think it kicks out 134bhp or thereabouts and is supposed to be very refined.

I was toying of trying one with a view to swapping the Z4 and adjusting the PCP but I might swap the Z3 instead and go for a cheapish hatch.
