Noisy Z4 Project

I've grown very tired of the noisy and rough ride on my E89 with 84k miles. My son had a E85 and it wasn't as noisy or harsh as my E89. Anyway, after analysis by both the BMW dealer and trusted local indie, the following problems were found.

1. Bent wheels (3). Right rear very bent, both left front and rear slightly bent. I replace the right rear with a new BMW wheel. The left front and rear I had straightened and powder coated.
2. Loud noisy differential. Found a very low mileage differential on ebay and had my indie shop swap it out.
3. Front VDC struts are toast. In the next few weeks I will be replacing with OEM. Weather permitting.
So far things seem to be improving. The struts are expected to be a big improvement.

Aside from the above, I still think there may be a wheel bearing in this mix. Additionally I'm going to pull the rear wheel well liners. It seem like there is no sound insulation at all.

Rear wheel liners are made of a sort of cardboard so be careful you don't tare them.
Something that helps a bit is to block the 2 bulkhead holes to the boot.
If you lift roof look towards cabin bulkhead there are two holes.
I assume to allow foul air to flow into boot and out of car.
I blocked those with some old pillow foam.
Helps reduce rear tyre noise.

Pulled the left rear wheel well liner off. I filled in the body panel gap with some foam and installed stick on sound insulation on the the inside of the rear quarter panel. Later in the week I'll remove the right rear and see what's up in there. The rear right side was always the loudest.

Will be interested to ‘hear’ how it goes? :tumbleweed:
