North East Hoons 27 July - pics

Well that was quick - didn't expect to see any photos posted so soon!

Thanks Martin that is impressive. Love the picture of the line up in your rear view mirror.

Sorry you had to head off at Hexham - watch out for other runs and we'd love to see you there.

I'll post up a report so you'll see how we got on during the rest of the run.

Many thanks for coming along.

Very nice looking E89 by the way!

Would like to thank Paul and Steph for organising a great run out today and introducing us to some cracking roads

We both had a fantastic time and was well worth the drive down from Edinburgh. It was also great to meet other members and to finally put faces to the names

Put us down for the next one :D

Some great photos guys and a great day.

Must say it was a thrill to see the Zeds arriving at our local Tesco carpark. Really impressed that folk committed to coming along and wonderful to meet new members and first time 'hooners' as well as being delighted to see friends we'd got to know previously. Lovely red E89 in attendance with Big Kehunas and his wife and also RitchieZ4 and his wife, in their very comfortable (loved the seats) Zed, were having their first forum run. John002 (another ex biker out for his first Zed meet) in his lovely example of the Coupe was already there with our stalwart, Chezsherman, chatting away when we arrived. It was great to have Grumpybi there who always adds something special to the day with his excellent Alpina, then a big smile as we met up with Swiftly and wife who we've got to know on quite a few Scottish meets now (thanks for making the journey down from Edinburgh) in their immaculate silver grey 3.0si. Completing our starting group was the winner of our 'longest travelled' attendee, Sammyz, in his lovely Imola red MR all the way from Liverpool - amazing - and thanks for taking up the sweeper role through the day - good to have some experience to refer to on the run.

We were blessed with some favourable traffic conditions and some clear runs through the first section of our route. We certainly saw the cyclists expected but they didn't hold up proceedings significantly. The expected farm machinery turned up and led to a nice procession down into Corbridge - we were relieved to see it and it's lead van, turn off our road and not down our back lane to Hexham. Where, meeting up with PeterZed we were able to sit outside the café at Hexham despite the threatened showers; the sun was out!

Another quick driver briefing over our coffee before heading out onto the main section of the run - the A686. A brief visit to Langley Castle to give early slow traffic time to clear and we had an encouraging run past Alston and onto Hartside where because traffic conditions were favourable we kept on and enjoyed the terrific descent into Melmerby and an immediate return for lunch at Hartside café. For those who hadn't been before this is a sensational location with fabulous views at the highest point of the run. It was good to have time to get to know each other a little more and catch up with news.

Chezsherman took the lead in our descent down from Hartside with an agreed photo stop at Langley castle - another great run down (thanks Craig) where Steph and I were able to get a different view of proceedings (Peterzed your Zed was impressive on this section - we got a great view!) and we headed back to Hexham to begin Section 3.
What a beautiful place Blanchland is and all enjoyed a short wander though the village before heading off around Derwent reservoir. There are enough twisties on the south side of the water to enjoy as we headed for the dam itself and then the return via the north perimeter is well sighted and a joy.

Time to say our farewells and make arrangements for the finish short of the A68 with some having to head south and some west; the rest of us on the A69 (with a few bonus twisties on the way back) and a cuppa at or house for those that had time.

A great day then and worth all the preparation and planning - great company, great roads and of course a great car - as we all know! Thanks everyone and we hope you enjoyed the day and got home safe.
(Post some photos tomorrow)

Didn't get much chance to take photos - too many other things to think about on this meet! Managed some on the road when Chezsherman took the lead down from Hartside.
