Plastic Cleaner and Polish

Does anyone have any experience of specific headlight palstic cleaners and polishes?

I have no deep scratches or marks on my lights, but would like to give them a general clean and polish after several thousands of miles of facing the UK weather

I'd use the Porter Cable on very slow and gentle settings

I'm drawn to Meguiar's 17 Clear Plastic Cleaner and 10 Meguiar's Clear Plastic Polish, only as I've used their products before.
Illustrated here but I could buy them direct locally or in twin pack off Ebay

(Please only products available globally or UK specific)

Here's one that we use, and it works great. We use either microfiber cloths or paper towels with the PlastX. My husband suggested to me that I tape around the headlight with painters tape so when you use the product it won't get on the car. Since my headlights are still decent, my husband on his Z3 used a polishing compound by TurtleWax...there was two kinds-his was more fogged up looking and had more scratches. I'm not sure if you guys have this in the UK, but its sold here in the US. If you can't find it let us know...maybe I can have one posted on ebay if you'd like....

Interesting as this one seems to combine the 2 products of clean and shine.

Available on Ebay UK so I may well try it

Thanks for the tip

PlastX available here http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine-amp-exterior/meguiars-plastx/prod_283.html have bought from Tim many times very quick delivery

This is a product i want to try on my headlights gonna see if Halfords sell it as they have a fair bit of Megs products if not will order from above

Thanks to you both for the recommendation on Megiuars.

I opted to go with the 2 separate products as per my initial thoughts as I prefer the idea of clean then polish, rather than a combined solution, but knowing you recommend the Meguiars is very helpful

Ended up purchasing from a local supplier (Performance Motorcare, Midlands) but via Ebay, as rather strangely he's cheaper that way than ordering direct???

I've used Plexus and Novus plastic polish with outstanding results. I would also make sure that using a PC is recommended on the plastic you are using it on as some of these have higher amounts of abrasives etc.

A good point to check that it is suitable for machine use. Certainly needs doing on a real slow speed and gently else I'm sure surface heat build up could melt the plastic very easily.

Update:

I went ahead with Meguiar's '17 Clear Plastic Cleaner' and '10 Clear Plastic Polish' and had the opportunity this morining to run over the headlights with the cleaner first and then the polish.

Used the PC on a slow speed and am very impressed with the results. One of the lenses had a series of fairly deep scuff marks on it and these came out fairly easy. (Of course this polish is recommended with machine polishers and this takes the effort out of it)

End result is very impressive. Showroom like shine and not a mark on them :)

Before - note in the right light I managed to 'catch' the scratches on camera. Deep scratches and a haze running top right to bottom left

After - Crystal clear:

can't even tell there is a polycarb cover on the headlight... :) :)

Back to more detailing if the rain stops...

Wow.. they turned out great! My lights seem to have a hazy film on them. I'm out to get the cleaner and polish now. Nice job, and thanks for the pics.

Very nice job! Sharing knowledge saves time and we get results! Thanks again for your photos!
