Sorry for posting a often repeated problem - searched but could not find "my problem"

2007 z4 with 65k miles previously no issues with top

putting up one day went 98% and stopped just before the latches connected to lock it down (it was not hooked in and could be manually lifted... had to lock down with hex key)

pressing button on console the motor at windshield whirs a little opens about a 1/4 inch and pulls it back down, windows do not go down (if they are down already - no difference), trunk tray is down and clip is in that sensor in trunk..... light flashes on top indicator (does not matter if engine is running or not... car is generally garaged and we have had little rain in months - although I do understand the motor can be corroded....) I am parked (0 MPH)

if I use the remote - both windows go down all the way and nothing happens (no whirring.... nothing ) lights don't even flash

I have manually put the top down (pulled handle and used the hex key to unlock the windshield) went back smooth - would not go up - lights only blinked...

where to start?

Probably the motor - I understand it usually is. If you search the topics a lot of people use someone based at Basingstoke I think. You could contact him and ask what would be the best way of testing. Havent had this problem myself so cannot be more helpful but good luck
 
red light or orange light flashing? does it stop at all. i have a problem with my roof that it will start closing till it gets to about half way and then stops. if i manually close it and use the hex key to lock it then the red light is blinking. if i manually open it and put it into the fully retracted (open) position the red light goes off. using the buttons is pointless from closed when the light blinks. from open you can hear the initial whirring which if you look carefully are the latches moving to the open position first. then the hydraulic motor comes on and the roof starts to close. about half way up it just stops dead.

Exactly same problem as domsz4 with mine.
If you find a fix please let me know.
 
somewhere in one of my posts about the roof there is a video of it being an arse. i am sure it is either ECU or sensor related as the pump i replaced was in too good condition to be broken and when supplied with a 12v 5A powers supply turned fine.

i intend to do some investigations but all my days at the mo are taken up with applying for jobs and trying not to be to depressed about my s**t life.

ill find a link when i have more time, just procrastinating here at the moment for a 5 min break.
