greeting all, i am a E89 owner in HONG KONG, space grey 23i ...

thx this forum, many of u share good tips of how to take care our lovely E89 ... assuming those right hand drive spec more similar...

anyhow, i hv a strange question here in regarding car boot would like to ask any of u .....

how u close the boot ? it seems to me that z4 has a little power aid, so i always just drop the boot without using power fr hand..... (ok, my woman slam it most of the time so i go little piss with that too) ...

it that true z4 has a power aid boot ?

thx .. pls do share any other strange tips here that i (we) might not know ..

Welcome!

Yes, the latch mechanism is motorized.

I use the handle on the inside of the boot lid and pull it down just enough to gently lower the lid onto the latch.

thx ... yes .. so i suppose many of those passengers would hv slam it by their usual habit ....which i rather they give my arm a bite ...

anyhow, seems to me that cause the water leak problem with the tail light with many owners over the world ... well oh well ..

another little thing that i find it difficult is i nvr able manage myself to give a good clean the inside of back window .. someone suggested i can hv the roof stop "half way" so i can stand aside and clean that .... but i always think is no good to the roof ... thoughts ?

The cause of the water leak in the lights is poor design and there's a kit available to solve that now that seals them better. The soft-close mechanism is a safety measure to ensure the boot lid is closed properly for safety reasons given the whole lid moves when opening and closing the roof. According to BMW, you can drop it and let soft close work, or slam it like any other, its been designed to do both. (Taken from BMWs own internal literature)

Maniac... Do you know if this kit is installed as part of the 2012MY cars?

You'd assume so wouldn't you.. probably best to speak with your dealer to confirm. It consisted of some foil strips and grommets so I was told by the dealer. In any event, I have dry lights now and hopefully that will continue!

I'm glad it's not just me that get's a little bit piss with the girlfriend when she closes the boot with enough force to rattle the windows.... how many times have I had to show her no force is needed at all... :headbang:

Would be interesting to know if there is a self-fix to the problem of steamed up tail lights without resorting to BMW prices post-warranty....
