Respect and language on the forum

Hi all,

It's been a hell of a couple of years, with Covid, lockdowns etc etc and understandably people have strong views on issues that have affected almost every person on the planet.

Since the forum began in 2007 I have tried to keep away from over-moderation, allowing the forum to largely police itself. Unfortunately in recent weeks/months there have been a number of topics that have kepps popping up (Brexit and Covid mainly) and the general politeless and respect that has always been a great strength of this forum seems to have wained.

I have seem some people who have always been stand up members of this community get dragged down the rabbithole of political fighting, which is a shame. I admit that from time to time I have also fallen foul to this.

Can I ask that we all take a moment to consider their stance and how they post, for the good of the forum if nothing else. It's not a great first impression for new members to see people attacking each other in a million Covid topics.

I still stand by my opinion that over-moderation is not good, so hopefully you can all help me out here and we can debate without name calling.

As for Covid topics, I will be keeping an eye on these in coming weeks as I think we should keep the number of these to a minimum. I by no means want to censor anyone but we should try to keep it to a couple of topics rather than spawning new ones every day. Please don't be offended if a new covid topic gets shut down.

That's all for now guys, just wanted to lay the cards on the table and hopefully we can start to get in the Christmas spirit!

Respect for the way the forum is moderated Sp3ctre and team

It’s way ahead of other forums in its approach and is best illustrated by noting it is usually not noticed- so a good thing

A timely reminder and I for one will stop writing messages to people calling them muppets

Well said!
I always try to inject a little humour, but am painfully aware it may not always be understood, or taken as such.
I apologise if I've offended anyone on here.

Seems like a timely reminder as a few threads have been getting out of hand lately.

I might read them but don't post on them!

Well said Sp3ctre, lets stick to Zeds, on that we should all agree (ish) - I still say stubby is better :D

Some of your jokes are terrible, you should be ashamed of yourself

As one of the more active members on the aforementioned controversial topics I cant disagree what what's been said, there has been a tendency for some people to slide too comfortably into simply degrading or dehumanising those who they disagree with and I too have also fallen foul to that as my patience with it waned.

Wholeheartedly support and agree that over moderation is a bad thing though perhaps if and when those topics come up again a more strict approach could be taken where derogatory terms or names used to directly or indirectly ridicule or call into question peoples intelligence are dealt with.

Good point, and in a perfect world we would be able to moderate in a fair and consistent manner. Unfortunately though, the moderators are not always around and so often these things go further than I’d like.

I would hope on the back of this topic people would ease up a bit without needing too much moderation, but if not then please use the report post feature and we will do our best to deal with it.

I am hoping that we don’t end up with moderation being a full time job, telling people off every day for name calling. We managed nicely for quite a few years until recently, so I am hopeful we can go back to the easy moderation days :)

I would offer to assist with moderation but I'm too much of a shit stirrer and trouble maker

But then everyone would get bored! :poke:

But the reduction in blood pressure of some forum members would relieve the pressure on the NHS :poke:

I’d not get bored you’d just give me stick directly by text or WhatsApp
