Scuff & Scratch Repair

I stupidly got distracted yesterday while putting my car in the garage and scraped the wall slightly; no dent but a deep scratch sadly about one inch square.

I've noticed that there are several chains in the UK called Chipsaway and Revive. Has anyone got any experience of these companies or any advice for me? I have touched up the marks myself but it will never be the same...

My father in law got Chipsaway to do a job on his bumper. It wasn't seamless, and without even getting up all that close it was quite apparent there had been work done on the area.

Maybe this was just down to the individual guy who 'fixed' it, but it wasn't satisfactory.

On the other hand, I did something similar to you a few weeks ago and brought it to a local bodyshop. I'd made a mess of the bumper, and while I had not knocked it out of shape, I had dug in quite deep. He sorted it out, respraying the whole bumper for £120. Looks as good as new now.

A lot of folks swear by this stuff....may want to check it out

Can you feel the scratch with your fingernail?
Definitely. Thanks, folks, for your help. To be honest, I'm not really keen on the whole panel being re-sprayed for a smallish series of deep scratches; however, I'm getting someone to have a look tomorrow.

Why don't you post a photo of it? Everyone will be able to give better advice.
That's a good idea though I've already touched it up heavily :-(

I've taken a photo: having trouble attaching it; how do you do that?[/url]

Hi,

Chips away are great for the jobs they know they can do.

Ie Had a couple of marks on a wheel, the guy did a great job perfect. They cant do flat pannels at all! If the mark is on a bumper ideally on the corner they can blend it pretty well.

The only way you will get that sorted if its down to the primer is either build it up layer at a time and wet n dry it back before polishing.

Or Maybe because its on an angle chips away may beable to do something. My guy says yes it will be perfect or no i cant do that.

Good look.

PaulN, thanks for that. I'm getting it repaired tomorrow by Jimmy at Revive: he assures me that I won't seeany damage at all when he's finished (I'm a bit sceptical; however we''l see... I'll let you know.

Time for an update:I have not been entirely happy with the paint spray job done by a local guy who works for a company called Revive. I was assured that I wouldn't know the difference: wrong! I can indeed tell the difference. The re-spray is very subtly lighter; there are several tiny blemishes; and two spots where there is a little overspray. Poor. I wouldn't let him anywhere near my car again. I've gone to a proper repair centre and they'll re-spray the whole wing like new for £170 GBP. I've had work done by them before, so I know their standards. Why did I not go to them in the first place? It was a one inch square deep score and I felt the whole wing was fine except for that little score. I opted for the cheap £80GBP job. Big Mistake.
