Soft brake pedal

Hi,

I had my 04 3.0SE serviced last year for the first time at 13k miles and with it the brake fluid changed. After I got it back the brakes had changed from absolutely brilliant to, well, ok. I sent it back and the stealer said they'd tested it and said it met MoT standards (legal min). So I thought ok, maybe it was me, it'll be fine etc etc.

Until I replaced my other car that is, and now the contrast is quite marked. There's a bit of travel, and the pedal doesn't feel rock hard at any point but doesn't firm up of I pump it. They do stop me ok but don't feel good or inspire confidence the way they did.

Rather then take a 35 mile round trip to the stealer to be fobbed off again I'm going to put it into a local well respected garage nearby (nice chap, 35+ years in business). Before I do, is there anything I should think about other than 1) having the brakes properly bled and 2) checking how much is left on the pads? I.e. are there any issues peculiar to the Z4 which the stealer couldn't be bothered to consider but the local chap might not pick up at first look?

Grateful for your thoughts, cheers

Nick

Sounds like there is still air in the system and they haven't been bled correctly, as you have mentioned. Don't recall any particular issues with the brakes that could cause this.

Local garage sounds like a good bet.

Thanks, it was. Some improvement by bleeding tham again. All for £39.50 - about the price of a coffee at the stealer :)

All good reasons to become acquainted with the task so you can do it yourself. I use a Motif bleeder so it's a pretty simple one man task in my garage to flush the system at will.
