Hello,
So I told BMW that I was having problems with my 2019 Z4 M40i and some issues to do with the software.
I’d noticed the car was not remembering certain settings that were saved under the driver profiles and it was sporadic to say the least. Sometimes the seats would move to the saved position, sometimes not. Mirrors, interior light settings, folding mirrors, nav crashing and apple car play freezing.
I’d read a lot online on various BMW forums about the Idrive 7 system and lots were reporting the same problems and dealers not really knowing what they were doing in terms of rectifying it. I lead my dealer to these issues potentially being a software issue and a lot of the niggles would disappear with a newer version.
As of yesterday my car was running the original 07/2019 version. I spoke to the dealer in the Cotswolds where the car came from and they said that any system should be on at least 12/2019 by now.
I’ve got the car back from Vines of Guildford today and they have updated it to 03/2020.58. This is the latest version. They informed me it wouldn’t look any different and whilst driver profiles are stored in the cloud and were remembered, i had to re-save my seat settings.
I noticed the stereo sounded marginally better on my drive home. So all in all a success, if the gremlins are to stay at bay.
Got home, went through the system and looked at the installed apps and these had all disappeared. The weather widget, news widget had also vanished from the main menu. I called Guildford back and of course the techs had gone home. I’m waiting for a call back.
So, back to Google and it seems that lots of people are reporting this issue as well. Apps vanishing and the dealer not knowing what to do. Some people had noted a hard reset of the idrive would reinstate them.
I dont want to have to go over to the dealer again if I can help it so I decided to do a hard reset.
The system reset and the apps all reappeared and now in colour and with updated features that weren’t there before. I also have the Spotify app that wasn’t there before and the Caring Car programme. A bit of a gimmick but nice none the less.
It meant re pairing my phone and amending some of the settings under my profile but this was all done in under ten minutes.
Dare I say it, the HK is also sounding richer. I dont want to believe it and I’ll test this out some more this weekend.
So, if you’re having issues with Idrive then it maybe worth a trip to the dealer and remembering the above.
Here’s what I was left with and what I have now after the reset.
