Starting odd fault

Guys my e85 si has a strange habit of not starting on the first key turn. Sometimes I get nothing for 3 or 4 turns . Ie the starter isn’t even trying.
It’s not the motor as I changed it last year with a new Bosch unit.

Any ideas?
Cheers
Luke

If your battery is healthy I suspect it can only be a problem with the starter solenoid or ignition switch.

It might be worth starting by getting fault codes read.

Ignition switches can be a problem with older BMWs. I'm facing it on my e39. I can turn the key to start, but nothing happens. I found out that it I keep holding the key in start position, the engine might start turning after a few seconds. Didn't try to solve the problem yet however.

With my Z4 I'm having different engine fire up problem sometimes - the engine starts turning and keeps turning but doesn't fire up. It fires up immediatly on second try however. What could that be?

If the EWS (immobiliser) is unhappy it allows the engine to turn but doesn’t run the pump.
We found this when I fitted a new DME and the EWS didn’t recognise it.
Got any EWS codes?
Or possibly a fuel pump issue?

Guys I got a scanner and it was a fault code on something. Cleared all codes now it’s working a treat. Best £40 I could have spent
Thanks everyone

What code was it?
Ideally need to note it in case it comes back, then you know you have a real problem looming.
