Just a quick post to say ive just fitted a set of Conti sport 7,s and removed the horrible Michelin super sports...

Also i had the cars geo done by Tuned. A company near Wrexham, that specializes in geometry on BMW,s and Supra,s, among others.

All i can say is the car is now TRANSFORMED in the way it drives and handles. :driving: :driving:

Gone is the feeling of rear steer that seemed to plague the car. Especially under compression....

The original geo settings were those done by the dealership, but were definitely not right for the car. :thumbsdown: :thumbsdown:

I cant praise Richard at Tuned enough for his time to sort out the fast road settings for our chassis... :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

And before anybody asks, what are the settings, sorry but he wouldnt do a before and after printout, as it has taken him some considerable time to get The Z4/Supra chassis settings . They are a closely guarded secret...
 
In some ways a pity that the two were done together…would be interesting to know how much the tyre changed made vs the geometry change..

Bit churlish not to disclose the geo changes IMHO especially since it’s so easy to remeasure after the geo change to find out..

Yeah that’s an odd thing to do. Plus he’s tied you in to going back there if you want the settings re-done to whatever he’s set it to.
Sure he’s good but I wouldn’t be happy not having a print out personally, it’s your car and what you’ve paid for after all.
 
Michelin Pilot Supersports are excellent tyres. They do perish and are prone to cracking with age.

New tyres always feel better than old tyres. Getting your geometry done at the same time will add to the improvement.

Yes the car is quieter now the conti,s have been fitted. And a lot more sure footed.

The Michelin's never ever gave me any confidence, they seemed to take ages to warm up, which in the UK, is not ideal, they might be ok in warmer climes, but i didnt find them much good.

They were dated 2021, so not that old either... They werent worn out, far from it, I just like my cars to handle well, and i was getting frustrated with it..
And reading other forum/social media posts I dont seem to be alone on disliking them..

The conti,s might not last as long being a softer , gripy-er compound, but ill live with that.

If anybody is after some Mich super sports , i have a full set available, with aprox 4-5 tread left.. And i will split front and rears.. Ie sold in pairs...

Yes i can understand Richards unwillingness to divulge his settings. He has put the time and effort in to find the sweet spot.

Yes i could get the car checked at another geo place, but that would cost me more, and Im not that far from Tuned HQ..

^This, great when they're hot, rubbish the rest of the time, funnily didn't have this problem at all with the PS4

Exactly. When they were hot they had some serious traction and were a joy, the rest of the time, not very good. I'm still wearing my set down before changing to something a bit more year round friendly.
 
Different car admittedly, but my MC came fitted with 19" wheels and MPSS tyres and I also found them hopeless in colder wetter weather, like the December day I collected it! Although they were great on dry summer days.

After swapping to OE 18s and changing the ride height an alignment transformed how it drove. :D
 
Since I replaced my rears with the conti tyres the car is a different beast. I can actually put my foot down and the tyres grip rather than spin and the traction control kick in.

The Mitch were great after you got them seriously warm. Only after serious heat did they grip properly which might be great on a track but for my dad to day, the conti just work better in normal use.

I’m going to get my fronts changed before the next service and a 4 wheel alignment gets done.

I wish I had changed them when I first got the car. Not sure how they will wear, but I don’t actually care as they are so much better.
 
Got conti's on my 5 series. Have to admit that they are good! However, I swapped out the Super sports on the Z4 for Michelin PS4S's and that gave loads more rear end grip. The Pilot Super Sports are an old technology design compared to the PS4S, and I wasn't keen on their handling.

Give it a few months to wear out the PS4S and I'll try a set of conti's next 🤣

Just about to change my rears which have done 22K. Fronts still OK so not bad wear methinks
 
I'd be cautious that the geo settings are not too aggressive! Manufacturers tend to use a compromise between tyre wear and longevity, against handling and performance.
A geo setting with too much toe and chamber may feel wonderful.....on track, using new tyres for each race etc, but would soon wear standard road tyres out.

I changed my tears first and it was fine. Just changed my fronts too as the car is going in for a service next week.
 
Passed her MOT and the tyres still had plenty of tread left despite me thinking the rears at least needed changing. None were less than 4mm after 22K miles

So instead of changing 2 rears now and fronts in a few months time, will change all four before winter sets in.

SARS recommends Goodyear F1/A6s which are cheaper than the Michelins so will be swapping to them
