When you think something is wrong

Working on car this last week i seem to notice excessive exhaust vapour and smell.
I replaced the heat exchange O ring few weeks ago.
No leaks.
But i get the feeling water is passing into engine and out the exhaust.
Oil looks and smell normal at filler.
Replaced anti freeze few weeks ago, i notice when i dip finger in tank the fluid has a greasy feel, yet not oily.
Level looks normal.
Recent cold spell could be the short drive to work is not getting the engine warm enough to drive off moisture.
I wish these cars had proper dip stick.

Exhaust has a smell that you get with super unleaded. The vapour soon evaporates and disappears.

Tomorrow will test some of the anti freeze i saved to top up, see what that feels like between fingers.
I think it's just the wetting agent.
The old i drained some weeks ago was clear. No oil floating, would have noticed.

Have always wondered why my cars N52 engine tail pipe has black soot.
Only car i ever owned with sooty exhaust and oil dirty after less than 1k miles after change.
Are all N52 engines the same. I know on start i get strong smell of fuel, especially super unleaded.
Runs ok, does 30 mpg commuting half town and country, but normally only 7 miles each way so temperature barely rising in winter months.

It’s normal for coolant to feel oily, track bikes use water instead of coolant as it’s so slippery if it leaks onto the track.

Yes i think it's just the wetting agent in the fluid.
I don't normally stick my finger in it...so to speak.

In English Midlands. 35iS parked overnight in car port under warm house. On start-up in present weather produces enough steam to drive a train.

Previous 3.6 and 4.2 litre cars did just the same.
