While They're In There...

As per this thread: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=72458 my car will be going to a local independent in the coming days for diagnosis and hopefully a quick and cheap repair. (I've replaced plugs, coils, cleaned the ICV, replaced the exhaust side CPS) so leaves only a few other things it could be. (I hope)

While they have it, depending on the diagnosis and resulting bill, I'm going to have a few other items seen to. On the last MOT I had a note stating slight oil leak from rocker cover gasket. While this is being changed I'll be supplying the new seals for the Vanos pistons.(Bought from i6 Automotive)

Is there anything else preventative worth doing around the 100k mile mark while they're doing all this?

Water pump replacing?
Cam timing?

Thanks

Oil leak advisory ? Go elsewhere for your mot :o

Probably didn't help they'd given it an oil service less than 2 months previous to the MOT. They did say slight and didn't need to rush to get it replaced, which was good as I needed the car for work at the time. Now wondering if the gasket around the plugs are failing / failed and what is causing the running issues...

Garages rely on repeat customers , main dealers invented service history and the importance of it , can you see the leak yourself ?

DISA unless you have already done this? Easy job to do yourself? Whether you have symptoms or not worth cleaning or buying the kit off the Internet to replace worn parts.

Yep, fitted the DISA kit a couple years back.

Think i'll do all the belts as they're cheap.

I know the E46 people recommended getting the water pump replaced, although my 330 went to 163K on the original with no issues

I would go for a new water pump if you are renewing the belts. A quality replacement can be purchased for £35-£40(I went for Meyle) and the fitting should not take more than 1-1 1/2 hours. My water pump bearings shattered recently with only 70,000 miles on the clock and new belts can put extra load on the pump.

There are some sensible sugestions above, mate, sure you'll get it sorted.
Which is different from yesterday's advice.
Chop it in, get an M!
