Hi Guys!

My name's Keith, thought I would introduce myself as I'm in the market for a M Coupe and what better place to get a feel for the model than here.

I'm 31, an engineer at Heathrow and live in Taplow (Berkshire). I'm lifetime BMW nut and have been in 6-cylinder models ever since my first car (an E36 328). After a handful of 328s, a 330 Clubsport and an E36 M3, I tried a Z3 M Coupe back in 2009. Fantastic car - raw, fun, unique, quick, beautiful. Mint too, with only 32k on the clock. I loved it, but at the time it was my only car. Eventually the impracticalities of having a pocket-sized 2-seater dictated we parted ways. :(

Nowadays I run a Golf for daily duties allowing my to keep my BMWs (and my wifes S3) immaculate. :)

Most recently I have just sold my (genuinely) mint E46 M3 just last week. I had owned it for nearly 3 years and built it to my spec. On top of the fact it had every option, I added BMW Perfromance Brembo 6-pots with CSL discs, Bilstein PSS10 coilovers, Genuine CSL wheels, Suspersprint X-pipe, braided lines everywhere and an immaculate maintenance record to match its FBMSH and low 67k miles. It looked completely stock (no dubious splitters and smoked indicators) but underneath the chassis and performance-centred mods made it very special.

It was truly the best car I have ever owned, the only reason for sale is that my time with it had run it's natural course - I want a new project and ownership experience. I'm also looking to keep my next car near-stock, with only a few choice upgrades to address some of the shortfalls.

That is what brings me here. I LOVE the S54 and the lines of the Z4 Coupe. And now the coupe will be a second car, there are no practicality issues like the Z3 I had years back.

I have a very good budget for the right E86 and will be biding my time waiting for the right one to come up. I know exactly what I want (immaculate paint, sub 45k and most options) and hopefully wont have to wait too long for it!

Looking forward to getting a feel for the community here (I'm no stranger to forums) and hanging out.

Pleasure to meet you all

Keith

And just to satisfy the 'worthless without pics posse' here are a few images of my previous cars:

I've been snooping for about a week and so far Imust say the forum looks great - nice balance of quality info, helpful and good-natured members and some nice in-banter (god I hate that word but you know what I mean)!

Cheers Tom :)

And yes, completely agree - my first choice for MC is Silver Grey. Amazing colour. Are they rare in SG?

It isn't the rarest colour but seen as tho there were only 580 odd Z4M coupes brought over the water there aren't that many. There is a thread somewhere with the amount of colours Il try and dig it out for you.

Hope you kept the OEM CSL from the M3 :D Finishes of a SG Z4M nicely

But I'm biased

Welcome.

Tom's car does look great, just missing the required aero skirts :poke:

Tom - Car does look well, and thanks for the info on numbers.

I did keep hold of the CSLs, but after careful consideration, I decided to sell them just yesterday. I agree they look great (on both M3s and Z4s) but you may notice on the latter pictures of my M3 I went back to the OE 18"s.

It was a revelation. No longer did I grit my teeth and wince after hitting even small potholes and inperfections on our (frankly appalling UK) roads, but the overall drivability increased dramatically. I was running CSL spec 235/35 & 265/30s... Switching to OEM 18 sizes I gained +20mm of tyre between tarmac and rim and the car became a proper driving tool again. I was no longer worried about buckling alloys and tip-toeing around B-roads. I fell in love again!

To quote a friend (commenting on reverting back to the 18s from the CSLs) "Now looks like it should be out crushing b-roads rather than sat outside the nail salon". Lol. I'm inclined to agree - looks a lot tougher, less bling and the drivability is raised notably.

After that lesson I am certain I will retain the OEM Z4 18" 224s and simply space/lower the car on decent springs and new dampers to give me the best of performance, drivability and aesthetics.

I have also heard from a number of my friends on the old Z3 forum that the Z4MC has terrible OEM spring rates - way too hard at the back and soft at the front. Does switching to H&Rs address this un-balance and improve the cars roadholding/drivability? Ironic that in this application lowering springs may improve the overall ride!

Ye your not wrong. The Zs suspension set up is not BMWs finest and a lot can be done to improve it. Mine is sitting on H&Rs and the 224s with standard rubber are slightly more compliant than the CSLs but not noticeably so. You'll also find the Z4M a lot more skittish than the M3 the M3 is more composed, being in the Z feels like being in the back seat of the M3 as your in a similar position over the rear axel.

There is a lot of info on here about improving it and we have a lot of good member who can help out. Exodus is the man to chat with

All good fun tho

Gorgeous cars! How much is a pair of those front calipers? Should be a straight fit on a z4m with us already having csl brakes as standard? Really want a pair of proper calipers at the front!

Cheers mate

They are not a straight fit. Assuming the hub on the Z4M is the same as the M3 (you just have different discs and carriers) you need a set of bespoke brackets. Myself and Dino (from Cutters forum) used my parts and a friend of his who runs an engineering firm to make us some up. So you'll have trouble finding some!

Welcome along Keith. You car history is special, some really nice cars!

Good luck in the hunt for the MC. Looks like there will be some threads of yours to be keeping an eye out for [emoji16]
