RPI Air ram scoop fitting

Post by pvr » Sun May 18, 2008 2:03 pm

Got this kit from Race Precision in the US which claims to reduce the fuel consumption by about 2 mpg as well as increased performance due to the ram air effect.

The replacement filter was a simple swap for the old one, so lid off, remove old, replace with new. No pictures taken from that.

First insert the screws in the holes as they are otherwise very difficult to get in:

New one in place:

Use a small screwdriver to fix the top screw first as you still have movement to get your hand in. Use the long screw driver for the bottom and side screw:

Just did a test run. Bit more growl under load and a bit more responsive, felt and sounded great

With an air scoop like that , do you think there will be an issue with water getting in the air box, or it that taken care of with the scoop?

Water runs straight out again. On Bimmerfest there is a 30-odd page thread on this thing where someone has even put a garden hose up it to test.

Took 10 minutes, you could have done that whilst I was on the phone :P

Having said that, when I took the grill off I noticed that the paint was loose / peeling around the edge of the grill. Just been to the dealer, entire bumper respray now booked in.

Look closely at the picture of the grill removed, and look at the right top. You can see it there.

You guys know how some forums are. You just never know who is telling the truth and who is not. I also know I would get the straight answer here.

Rumor has it, you can offset any labor charges if you buy a few beers. :P

Depends on the age of the car (i.e. facelift or not). Have a look at the thread about this on bimmerfest, other guys have fitted it with non M cars
