07 Feb 09: Magical Mystery Tour

The details are close to finalising now. I have a fantastic photo opportunity (although it's a bit of a gamble how well it's going to turn out), a fantastic pub for lunch and, as a bit of a bonus, a post-cruise partay!

The starting point for this cruise will be the Extra Services at Willington, which is at the junction of the A38 and the A50. If you want to stay over the night before, there is an Etap hotel at the starting point. There is a Starbucks, Le Petit Four and Shell at the start, so both cars and people should be well "vittled"! :D If you fancy a slightly more posh hotel, there is a Ramada that is also very close to the starting point.

The cruise will probably be a little slower than most people expect from a Spokey cruise, but a lot of the route is going to be along a heavily speed-trapped 50MPH stretch.

Before lunch, we will be stopping off at the photo opportunity. In order to grab the best spots for the photos, we will have to be there at 11:00 sharp, so the cruise will need to leave at 09:30 sharp.

Lunch is a stone's throw from the photo opportunity and I will try to arrange that we get a room to ourselves. I've already tried the lunch venue and it was superb!

After lunch, there will be a bimble around a bit of Staffordshire and we will finish up where the cruise started. If people need to peel off earlier, we will be crossing the M6, just let me know if you need to do this.

Finally, if you haven't had enough fun, there will be a social evening at a local eaterie. Please vote for your venue option here.

Please ensure that you have some cash with you for this event!!

Right - this is def. one for me to attend. I happen as luck would have it to live tops 15 minutes from the start point :)

Count me in for sure :driving:

I'd be a maybe for this, looks like you need a few more Z4's and it's excuse to actually drive for fun, rather than the daily commute.
I'll see how this month goes with a few things.

If you're a local, can you tell me what the Boot Inn is like?

It seems to be just up the High Street from the Bulls Head and would look like a perfect place to get some shut-eye the night before/after the cruise.

I can't recall ever being in it, however it boasts a few AA stars and Repton is a very smart and small village (most famous for it's public school) so if the dinner is at the Bulls Head then it would be fairly close. If however it's in Burton then you have a fair taxi ride out there for no reason. Repton is also just a short drive from the start point so all fairly local.

Definitely interested in this as not done a Z cruise in either Z.

Can't confirm yet as its the Sheffield derby that day (i'm an owls fan!) altho will struggle to get a ticket this year. So I'd say I'm 95% certain I'll pop along to this.

I'll wait & see where the dinner is to be before booking a room then :P

Spokey, you can put me down for the lot then

URGENT: Can you please PM me the following details:

1. Forum handle:
2. Your real name:
3. Passenger name (or N/A if no passenger):
4. Make and model of car:
5. Registration number:
6. Mobile number:
7. Staying for dinner (Y/N)?

I've made some assumptions for the confirmed people, but I could be wrong!

Please get this off to me ASAP to confirm your attendance, I need to start making arrangements.

I have some bad news: although I can take more people along for the cruise itself, if you have not yet confirmed attendance at the evening meal, I can only get a room for 25 people, and that room is now full! :dizzy:

I apologise for that I wasn't expecting this level of interest, please let me know if you are interested in doing the dinner and I will put you on the waiting list.

But the sooner you confirm, the higher you will be on the waiting list!

Yippee, I get to eat!

This is the Boar's Head dinner we're talking about?

Or are you using the colloquialism of dinner meaning lunch :D

That's correct.

I was just wondering which 'dinner' you meant that had already reached the 25-head cap.
