Recommend me... a wax

OK, I don't want to scare either myself or my wallet so I'm purposefully avoiding asking this on Detailing World...

Simply put, is there a better wax for my money than Collinite 476?

My current tub of Collinite is very low and I'm about to pull the trigger on a new 18 fl oz tub at approx £25. I'm more than happy with it's performance on my Z4, the van and the wife's car, but it's been years since I bought anything different and wondered if there was anything better for the same £££.

Thanks.

DoDo Supernatural is another great product. But the sample pot, and it will give you min 5 coats of wax....

I really like Dodo Juice Rainforest Rub, which I keep topped up with Poor Boys QD+ between waxes. It has quite a glossy finish though, some people prefer something colder on silver.

Poorboys white diamond is a great polish for silvers and whites etc......a great pre lim to a good hard wax....I usually do 2 coats of polish and then 2 coats of wax every 6 months....with of course a clay, tardis etc etc

I use White Diamond on mine, although given Ally's stated budget I thought I'd refrain from getting too carried away... but it's a good tip for light cars.

Cheers folks. As Matt points out, my Z4's silver. The campervan's white and the wife's car is also silver.

Dodo Juice Rainforest rub is approx twice the price of Collinite #476, per volume - is it worth it?

And is THIS the right thing for Poorboys White Diamond?

As a side note, when I think of White Diamond it takes me back to my teenage years

Yup that's it Ally....it's great stuff. I would just use Collys over it...job done!

Ah, so it goes: clay - polish - glaze (that White Diamond stuff) - then wax of my choice over the top?

Or, is that White Diamond stuff sufficient by itself?

I'm confused...

In all honesty, almost certainly not. Would I buy it again, yes!
LOL, but I know precisely what you mean!

Collinite always gets great reviews from everyone who uses it and at the price point it's hard to beat.

Considering having this for a birthday pressie though

Had their 'Divine' on my car when it was professionally detailed (see signature photo). Great stuff but very pricey !! :o

To be brutally honest it doesn't matter what wax you use if the paint surface isn't prepped correctly your wasting your time and money. If you have a budget stick to it but I advise looking on detailing world to learn how to prep and apply. Yes it is easy to get carried away and spend a fortune but you don't have too. A product may suit one person but not another so it's down to trying different products out and seeing what suits you.

£50 of products, that's all you need. And it will last you a least 6 months, or 6 weeks in my case

You're mis-judging me. I'm not a total detailing geek hence avoiding DW, but I'm also not immune to it all - I like a clean car but I'm not obsessive like a lot of folk on there. Each to their own though. I know it's all about the prep: the van and the Z4 have previously been fully paint-corrected with a machine polisher. I've been able to keep on top of it with Autoglym SRP (hand applied - I don't have my own PC) and being careful, so I know my paintwork is in pretty good condition. And I'm not willing to waste a fortune trying out multiple products - I don't have that sort of money to burn.

Think I'll stick with Collinite. Just debating whether to use that glaze stuff beforehand though. TBH I'm happy with the finish on silver and white anyway so probably won't bother

a11y, I used a glaze the first time I did a full detail before 3 coats of Meguirs wax, I had a stunning shine on the car, the next years full detail I forgot to add a glaze before waxing with Dodo juice purple haze, I had just as good a shine on the car, Guess it's horses for courses, Happy to give you a lend of my Dodo juice so you can try for Free and judge for yourself at no cost.

Another vote for a dodo juice panel pot... try it a couple of times and see if you like it for minimal outlay.

You could try the Collinite 845 - its a liquid (if you warm it a little) and lasts as long as the 476 but I think is easier to apply.

As you have a silver car, you may want to try a sealant. Werkstatt Acryllic is supposed to be good, but I was recently advised to try Permanon as it gives good protection, a good gloss, is quite hard wearing and very easy to apply.

A glaze makes a big difference to the finish IMO. I apply Chemical Guys EZ Glaze between polish and wax (dodo all the way - so easy to apply)
