Lotus

To try and stop my for sale thread being derailed with pictures of other pretty cars, I thought I'd start this thread. I should have guessed there would be other (ex) Lotus owners on here

So - my 2 previous ones. First I had an S1 Elise, Sport 160. So this is 160(ish) bhp from a 1.8, but no clever VVT, just some lumpy cams and a crap factory map (1300rpm idle to pass MOT emissions, barely driveable below 2k, but lovely above 5 once on cam)

Kept that for about 3 years, then sold it to pay for a new Kitchen :( But kept the Lotus bug, so replaced it with an M100 Elan:

Stonking FWD car, but as someone else mentioned, not the most watertight thing in the world. That was replaced with the Z4M.

So who else has/had a Lotus?

Jon

I can so empathise with you - because of my size I couldn't fit in an Elise :( The next affordable alternative was the M100 which was surprisingly roomy and even with my freaky height I was able to fit fairly comfortably - I searched for months and found this one that had been Sorn'd for a few years but was easily up to my OCD standard and was the ultimate calypso red with full leather interior - 1991 with only 59k miles supported with all documentation - the picture doesn't really do it justice ( apart from my wife  but it's the only one I've got left - car that is ! ) Bought it for £5750 and sold it 3 years later for the same ) My zed draws a lot of attention but not as much as the Lotus did !

and spookily the number plate was H......BFG - very appropriate

I had x2 S1's and an S2 and loved them all. I wish I'd kept the S2, but I wouldn't afford to run two cars. Sadly they're all getting on a bit now.

Had my toyota powered s2 for 2 & a half years and sold it for more than I paid for it

Lots of fun but harder to live with than a z4 :driving:

Had a red 1972 Elan S3 coupe on twin Dollortos

Then a series of 7s -nicest was a yellow Cosworth BDR [1.7 twin-cam on twin 45s'] and latterly a blue HPC Evo [VX 2.0 on twin 48s]

Of all the cars i ever sold i still dream about the Elan -worth tidy money now

Hello.

I've had 2 Elises, a Series 1 and a Series 2. Loved them both to bits and have been waiting many years for the 3rd generation to come out. Still waiting...

Another ex Lotus owner here looking to get back into Lotus ownership as I've never really gelled with the lack of
ride quality to the Z4MR. Lovely engine but down a proper bumpy road it's just crap in comparison.

Here's my previous two:

Club Racer Exige S - 265bhp

Honda SC Sport 190 - 300Bhp

Looking to get into a well sorted S1 this time round.

Those power figures won't mean a lot to some guys on here as they are only around the same as a 3.0 zed, if you consider my elise only had 134hp yet accelerated as fast as a 3.0 z4 it becomes apparent what very light weight does for performance (& handling) with 260hp+ these cars are missiles :o
Regards

Yeah, the 265bhp one would keep up with 500bhp Amg mercs just about and the compliance and handling would leave the Z4 for dead, wouldn't see which way it went lol. The 300bhp one is on a different level altogether :D
