I know the BMW owner's manual indicates that the Z4 requires premium fuel. However, I have been told by other BMW Z4 owners that they use the mid-grade and have never had any issues. So, given the price of fuel . . . what do you use? Z4 Pilot

I've tried 95, 97, 98 and 99. With the 2.0 I get about 1-2 mpg more with 97/98 (Tesco 99 was like 95, but worse subjectively). Can't tell the difference subjectively, so I stick with the 95 because the price difference isn't sufficient to make the 97/98 value for money. Wouldn't be surprised if the 2.5/3.0 has a bigger improvement with 98.
to answer your question i use shell v power at 98 or tescos momentum at 99 i did try vpower max in germany at 102 i think it was but the price ! i only used 1 tank and i think your engine needs to "learn" the higher octane as i didnt feel any difference other than in my wallet !!!!
I have been using the premium stuff, but apart from on long journeys not noticed much difference. Most of my driving is stop-start city driving so will probably start using standard unless on a long trip.
