Roadster owners, cold hands - what do you wear?

Right, before I start let me state that I don't need to MTFU: I'm already hard enough to drop the roof no matter what the outside temperature is

I prefer to get the roof down all-year round and did so last winter in as low as -3degC temperatures. I don't have heated seats but in all honesty I'm always warm enough using the heater. The only issue is my hands - they get stupidly cold no matter what I do with directing the air vents onto my hands...

What do other roadster owners do? I'm sitting here looking at driving gloves online but, being 30, I just feel waaaaaay too young for something as twee as that! I'm not sure I could deal with that.

Is there such a thing as decent driving gloves that don't give you the "gimp" look? Suggestions welcome, particularly cheap (<£20) suggestions :)

Cheers
Ally

You've got 3 options...

1) get some flesh coloured driving gloves so noone knows.
2) get some proper racing gauntlets and sod everyone else
3) get some SealSkinz gloves to keep you warm & dry

Alternatively, wear some boxing gloves. You may look like a tit, but noone's going to say that to your face :P

Or maybe these...

I wear fingertip-less cycling gloves -- keeps my hands warm enough but I don't get that "dead hand" feeling -- it's a good compromise for me!

Don't you know that only people with M cars can drive with a M badge on their gloves... Tut Tut

30?

embaressingly my Mum bought me some leather driving gloves (proper old man style) for xmas a year or two ago when i was 19/20!

thanks Mum, feel really loved

no matter what style gloves you are wearing, your gonna look a right tit, especially the M gloves, all a bit too try hard. why not just angle the air vent onto the steering wheel area? works fine for me.

Tried these last year, found every time you went to change gear the car lunged to the left, it was very disconcerting before I realised the string was to short, had to get a grown up with sharp scissors to cut it for me, then lost one of the gloves.

Sense and sensibility - hurrah!

I'm not going as far as getting gloves for above mentioned 'looking like a tit' reasons.. but angling the heaters is definitely not enough to keep your hands warm under 5 degrees on anything other than a very short low speed journey... IMHO of course...

That's exactly what I do... :driving:
I also have a pair of the ///M gloves...

Nah, doesn't work enough for me - as OwenT says this only works at lower speeds.

Looks like it'll be gimp/driving gloves then. I lost my last pair of mittens and now my mum won't let me have another pair...

Just need to find a pair that don't look too dodgy or are too thick - I don't want to lose any feel on the wheel, etc. which is the problem with most gloves.

I usually roll a pair of old socks over my hands, preferably ones that have a hole worn so I can put me thumb through. Mind you, they are 'M' socks.

I bought a pair of BMW black leather driving gloves from the states. I could not find them from UK dealers.

My brother got me a pair of tan driving gloves for my birthday (30th) so you're not too young! Just put them on, stick the top down and enjoy the day! No one cares what you've got on your hands - be more confident man and enjoy the envious/admiring glances. White scarf and flying goggles optional...

I've got a pair of standard thinsulate gloves in the little net pocket in the passenger footwell - only ever wear them for the -3 top down heater on jimi hendrix blaring detox mornings

Close off the passenger air vents.
Although I've only had it a few weeks, the top goes down whenever the rain stops.
If it's a wee bit chilly, I just close off one or two of the passenger airvents and whack the heating on full whack, with the direction halfway between feet and face - not had cold hands yet.

My hands get cold even in Summer ! Must be an age thing-poor circulation etc. Mind you I still haven't bought old man's driving gloves, I might give the joggers gloves a try though, a little less 'looking like a tit' than those BMW leather 'M' ones :o
