But you all new that--Just got rid of those dam OEM run flats, And yes, I waited way to long to replace them-----
The Tire I replaced them all wiith is Falken FK 452's, I feel like I just picked up a brand new car :driving: :driving:
1st advantage no more road noise, that just sucked on the RFT! The Falken's provide a smooth quiet ride that is a pleasure :D

Why did I wait so long

Dont wait, just do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats. I'll do the same when I'm due for a tyre change.

Anyone know how much a set of 452s cost in the UK (with and without fitting/balancing/etc)?

OK, from the other threads--I'm assuming all that are overjoyed with their non-RFTs have pre-facelift cars? I'm not sure I want to loose out on handling, etc by switching. They softened up the suspension at facelift.

You won't lose out by going to non-RFT's. If anything, handling will improve. Straight line acceleration & fuel economy should improve as non-RFT's are usually lighter - less unsprung weight and outer rotational mass. I'm guessing the B.S. about needing to stiffen up suspensions after changing to non-RFT's in the other thread has gotten to you? Well. Ignore it. That guy's full of sh!t.

20ducks has a facelift. Personally, I'd do it, but I'd wait until I needed to change at least 2 tyres anyway, unless you do so few miles that you might have to wait too long.

For mine they'd be £57.95 a corner!! I remember my Ford Focus tyres costing more than that!

Street - are you sure about those prices. They seem right for the fronts, but if your using the 255/35/18's on the rear they are £101.27 each. Still a full set for around £390 if you add £20 shipping plus say £10 per corner fit and balance. I only ask as I'll be getting those next.

Great tire! So much softer, quieter and the handling is amazing. I paid $495 for the rear 265/30/19. Very pleased, Falken all the way

Nope - dumped the Bridgestone RFTs from my '07 Coupe for a set of Michelin PS2s and there is no way in the world I would mount another set of RFTs like the ones that came with my car. It handles far better in my opinion both on the streets and on the track with non RFTs.

When I went in thinking I had a puncture the garage told me you can only fit runflats to the 108 alloys? I'm guessing this is not true then? Is it ok to replace one tire with a non runflat if I got a puncture?

Thanx :D

RFT's are on all the OEM style rims for the Z4 and many other cars in the BMW range inc. Minis, so that's crap.

As for one non RFT - no way for anything otter than a get home emergency tyre. I can't believe the car woudl brake and steer correctly when pushed.

Welcome to the 452 club, i'm on my second set and i will never again pay over inflated prices for the likes of Michelin etc, this set cost me £330 fitted and ballanced on 18's, 108's in fact....

Not changing until I need to. Paid for 'em, gonna use 'em up!

Yeah, while i'm one of the ones in love with the 452's, I'm also one of the ones that would wait until at least one of the runflats needed changing before I swapped em for 452's.

But yeah 452's for life!

When I got my Zed it had RFT almost new on it. They were just awful and I went to my local tire store and put other high performance tires on it and it was an improvement right away in every way. I guess I should have kept the tires and sold them, but I really didn’t want anyone else to experience them on their car. The guy at the tire store said one of the problems they have with all brands of RFT is that the side wall is so thick and the tire is built in such a way that if there is a massive failure they have had tires come completely off the rim. Not good at 115 MPH. Some of you track guys would have to verify that, but I will never have a set on any car I own ever again. It was like the guy said, he thought he had a new car. :)

Another fun day with the 452's smooth as butter----They cost me 760.00 with NC tax mounted and balanced :D The difference it truly makes, I will never purchase RTF's again! This has been the best upgrade you can do!!!!!!!!!!

WOW - Im amazing by the backing non-RFTs have got - and its proven.

Few questions

1) How will the RFT system in the car respond without it "seeing" the RF sensor on the wheels? Ive personally not understood what that button does anyway
2) Will fitting non RTFs void my warranty?
3) This is my 1st "sports" car and so in the past was not concerned with the brand of tyre i fitted to my cars - as they were no way as powerful as my new beast. So this thread discusses falken 452 and how they are amazing blah blah - but any experiences with other non RFT brands such as Dunlop, Pirrili etc etc??

My understanding was that Falken was a "budget" ZR rated tyre and whilst their compound was harder, they lasted longer but were not as grippy as more expensive brands

Thoughts?

Cheers
Jamie

Hi,

do you mean the loss of pressure indicator? I don't think that's dependant on having rfts, something to do with the abs I believe. I've put Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics on my 04 18s and have been very satisfied with the results, though not done that many miles so far. The ride is as firm, but without the jarring, and skipping over bumps. Steering is slightly heavier, no bad thing imo, car feels lowe almost, turn in sharper, and ever so slightly vague around straight ahead, as it always was really. Michelin Ps2s get good reports elsewhere too.

Re price, I found my local small-business tyre firm was the same price fitted as I could have ordered them for online and done the next day, so worth shopping around. You could argue it's a waste of money if the rft's aren't worn out, but then again you might say it's a waste not enjoying the car to the full. If the roads you use are as bumpy as near here then it's more worth it than if you're mostly on motorways.

I've read people have been told there are warranty issues, though mine was out of warranty. Best check with your stealer, or perhaps email BMW UK and keep the reply in a safe place. As I've said before though, keep the old rfts if you change them as my local stealer made a £700 deduction from my 120s trade in value as I'd taken them off (so I went elsewhere). Don't forget to tell your insurance company too.

Btw, local tyre chap warned me that there was a risk of damaging the rims taking off the rfts so beware. He didn't, but they were extremely difficult to remove.

Hope you're enjoying your new car :driving:

OK, so the consensus is the RFT as done by Bridgestone are bad (they don't really bother me, go figure), Falkans are good, and we have at least one who likes the Michelin ZPs. As I understand it, the Michelin use a completely different wheel-within-a-wheel concept and not the extremely stiff sidewall setup.

Are the majority of you who are changing to Falkans pre-2006 and non sport package???
