Had "Hunter" alignment done on my Zed - WOW!

Via a separate post of CJ's, i learnt about http://www.alignmycar.co.uk/ and read up about the differences in wheel alignment out there. I was always a bit bemused by the massively expensive BMW KDS job versus the 29.99 job you get done at KwikFit.

Being the skeptical type and knowing i needed alignment, i set about doing my research as above and rang round a few places to get the "Hunter" alignment done - proper job.

FIrst thing was the price difference!!! Using AllignMyCar, i found some places to do the work both near home and work. Central London, "that will be 1.5 hours of labor - so 150+ VAT". I took this as being expected and the norm but couldn’t take it to that garage due to me being busy. I rang round somewhere near work "that will be 100+VAT" - better I thought...Then I thought "hold on, im seeing my folks this weekend, let’s see if there is somewhere near Burton On Trent". Yep, ETS (http://www.edentyresales.co.uk/) in Derby. Called then "yes sir, that will be 29.99 all inc" ....WWWHHAAATTT???? I double checked that was for a Hunter job - and yes it was. RESULT!

Went down on Saturday morning and after 45 mins, they did the front and REAR of the car. It was very out. Cost - £47 quid - it was extra to do the rear. No problem from me!

The result - a TOTALLY different car. Handles like on rails and ZERO tramlining!

Advise - GOTO ETS now. they will check the car and tell you if it needs doing or not and you can watch with your own eyes

Brilliant service!

Jamie

Interesting to hear this has long been on my list of to do's. But, im in London and have absolutely no reason to go all the way top derby

I'll have to start ringing round for home counties places.

Great heads up - especially as i live in Derby!

I have alwaye gone to the wheel alignment center in notts for mine!

Has your car been lowered -any reason for it to be so out of spec being relatively new?

To anyone who hasn't had a 4 wheel alignment done, do it.........makes a whole load of difference. :D

Yep, its both been lowered and had 2 owners before me - this you can never fully know a cars part history!
Not to mention the number of pot hols i have been unable to avoid - i just wanted to get it checked.
Plus i change tires a few weeks back and noticed the fronts to wear on the inner edges!

Will add them to my list of places for my Z to visit!

just checked that link, one of the body shops in my town has a hunter - result. will have to find out what they charge, id be ecstatic if it was sub £50

Hi,

Booked mine in. Apparently, no caster setting comes up on the Hunter machine, so they match this with camber? Is that correct?

Everything else checks out :)

No idea what this means - hopefully somebody else will answer you...

Seeing your opinions I have decided to bite the bullet and get mine done. Just booked mine in to a tyre company in East Grinstead, I will post the verdict up later but its £75 all in minus 5% discount with the website voucher.

I can recommend Super Tyres in Maldon if anyone is nearby, they've done many Supercars before on their Hunter rig.

Well the guys at East Grinstead Tyre service certainly know there stuff! The car feels great already just driving it home! I also have a fancy little print out with before and after settings! Turns out all was well apart from front toe by 2 degrees, and rear camber but only marginally. I watched the whole set up and I highly recommend the company!
