Cheers guys. Not been out in the dark yet to report on brightness. Just heading out to nightshirt so will comment later.

Ally - I've not made my mind up yet. Still have the silver ones in the boot. SWMBO prefers the silver ones.

Here's a couple of phone quality photos of the beam pattern at night taken on my way to work last night. There seems to be a bit of a hotspot which has been mentioned before on here but aside from that seem to give pretty good coverage.

Will try and get better quality pics up at the weekend.

Looking good JP - did the night shirt fit ok ?

Just had to go back through the thread to answer that. I was beginning to wonder about you two with questions like that :)

Ally have you bought the lights yet?

Looks GREAT!

Did you have Zenon lights already or not?
Is this item on eBay just the housing and you fit your existing Bulb into it?
(I have no clue whats going on inside the Z4 headlights not having looked from the inside).
Its a mod i would seriously consider based on the results i have seen here and on a few other forum members.

They are only compatible with halogen stock lights. It comes as z complete replacement for the stock headlight (lenses and casing). It also include all bulbs except an H7 which you can swap over from your originals. The only other difference is that the aftermarket ones do not have a levelling motor (so the wee dial on your LCM is useless) but this isn't required for your MOT.

Jax - I've just worked out what you're on about!

Just bought a set of these lights and have taken the car down to a bmw independent to be fitted. They have phoned me up this afternoon saying that they are having problems as the wiring is different to the originals. Did anyone have this problem when they changed them over?

They have to splice the AE wires into the side light wires, I watched Jimmypop do it to mine, I was gobsmacked at how easy it was, Now the question you have to ask is If a surgeon (Jimmypop) can read a bit of paper then follow the instructions and yet a BMW technician can't, do you trust them to do it properly.
Between us it it took about an hour tops start to finish to Remove bumper, remove old lights fit new lights and refit bumper.
Also remember the self leveling wires are now redundant and have no where to fit on the new lights, they need to tape them off.

That doesn’t sound too hard. Was contemplating doing it myself, but thought better of it. My lights do say there are motors in them to self level, so they maybe slightly different. Suppose I'll just have to wait and see what tomorrow brings.

They look great now......just wait! I purchased these exact lights last week, they filled with moisture within 12 hours. Let me know how yours cope, because im seriously pissed with how they look now! If you look carefully you'll notice all the smaller grommets have holes in. Poop

Ps mine DO have the motors included, they cost alot more but well worth it to keep the little dial thing in use. Still crap lights though!

The reason I replaced the standard lights is that they filled with moisture after replacing a bulb. Funny thing when I drove into the garage car park this morning, there was another z4 there with the exact same problem, must be very common.

mine have had a couple episodes of condensation in the last month but cleared up during the day, nothing that would cause me to be upset though. not bad for having been on over six months. think ive got different aftermarket lights though as theres no motors on mine.

Got the car back now and they are fitted. Have a few questions though. Firstly I’m not sure whether the light direction is correct. I can see a sharp angle of light on the left hand side which seems quite high, and then the other side doesn’t match and seems very low. Secondly the dial on the dash does work due to them having motors. However am I correct in thinking that the dial if placed at 2 should bring the lights down and 0 will lift them, assuming your the only passenger.

Last couple of days I have had my telltale light come up on my dash. Firstly thought it was my rear lights then discovered it was infact the driver side front. From time to time it seems both angel eyes on the one side didn’t light up. Then found the main beam light wasn’t working either. Checked all fuses after I checked the bulbs and all seems to be fine. It is very much an intermittent problem but with the nights drawing in need to find out what the issue is. Anyone who fitted these themselves have any ideas whether it could be down to wiring or anything else?
