just what kind of sat nav disc do i need?!

so that's the sat nav system i have in my 06 Z4M coupe, what kind of disc do i need to get if i want up to date maps?

also do the new map discs come with the software update built in to give me postcode search/3d view/day & night?

There are a number of sites (look through google etc) that offer *dodgy* maps for download with *amended* firmware. Firmware switches on options like night/day view, speed cameras, and postcode search. The *dodgy* maps have the speed camera's added as POI.

If you look through the v32.2 firmware recent thread, there's a whole stream of comments and advice on the firmware update.

yeah i had a look through the thread as it was going but to be honest, i'm a complete computer 'tard! i'd have been just happy buying a BMW update disc, sticking it in the dvd & letting it do it's thing! all this faffing on trying to download stuff & burn onto discs etc fills me with dread!

srhutch, cheers mate, i've seen a high updated maps on the 'bay but the ad states that it also includes the firmware updates to enable the new functions.

i DON NOT want a snidey disc off ebay-i only really want a proper bmw one :)
 
Dealers will sell you the map disk, at a premium. They sometimes have previous versions if you are looking at cheaper options. Regarding the firmware update, you are better off downloading and installing the official V32 update as dealers will charge a stupid amount for the pleasure of putting a CD in your SatNav drive and then taking it out again - if you're not comfortable with doing this, them maybe someone in your local area can help (where are you located?). You may be able to swing the update for free for the dealers if you're getting the official maps DVD off them though.
 
If you don't travel outside the UK with the car, BMW were selling up to date UK only cd map disks for about £80-85 on their fleabay store.

unfortunatly i've got quite a few euro-hoon's planned this year, starting with the ring/spa this month so i really need the euro mapping. anyway, with a little luck i may be getting some help from a forum member on this matter :)

really, what gives you that idea? i don't have a postcode input but i haven't tried looking for the other menu?
 
For the price of an official BMW update DVD, you could buy a TomTom with the latest map on it (it's what I've done), plus you can put your own POIs, favourites and speed cams on as frequently as you like.
 
Your Software code is showing 4-1/71; this is v27.1, so a 2006 release. Looks like it hasn't been updated in a while.

As for the Tom-Tom I know the score-in fact I've got a superb navigon euro sat nav but I detest stick on sat navs & wires across the cabin if I don't need them :headbang:
 
There are plenty of places you can simply download a disk. Until the vehicle manufacturers wise up and offer a reasonably priced subscription service piracy will be rife. I suspect they would claim piracy is why prices are high. Chicken and egg maybe...

Agree on the subscription. Sytner's Nottingham offer a trade-in price for updating map disks (at least, they did last year when I got mine), but still not cheap. Unsure of the legality of hacked firmware disks (offering night/day, etc) but agree the dodgy maps are a personal decision.

+1 - in fact, my ipod/iphone integration uses a "spec-dock" approach to ensure there arent any cables hanging around :) Shame that the SatNav looks so dated; I'm often looking for versions of h/w customisation to upgrade the screens and software, but cannot find anything out there.
 
yeah the space dock thing was probably what I was going to use if I didn't get a car with nav, but..

I have to say I don't mind the BMW system so much-it could be better/quicker but it does the job & I'm sure with the up to date firmware (my biggest problem so fare is night time glare from the screen) I'll be happy :thumbsup:
