France RoadTrip '09

.
Hello All

Back from what was an amazing 2 week trip with the lovely Z and the lovelier (just!) girlfriend.

In case you were wondering I took other pictures that were not of the car...

1. London to Gascogny leaving on the 7am ferry. Mother lives in a little village called Simorre.

Girlfriend and the red head...

2. Gascogny to St Paul de Vence. Lovely hotel called Les Messugues, damn reasonable, very friendly people and lovely setting.

Damn hotel cat!

3. SPDV to Bluffy just above Lake Annecy. Take the N85 from Nice (as I think some of you have already said). It is epic, it is special, DO IT!!! The roar of the engine through the tunnels is emotional. BMW really does equal joy!

PM me if you have any questions about the trip, it really is something that you should do!

2 slight niggels...Coolant tank sprung a leak the day before I was supposed to leave! Took it into Hexagon servicing and was fixed, cleaned and driven back to my home. They really are great at Hexagon, Aiden especially puts in the extra effort. On the trip the airbag light came on and never went off. Emergency assist said to take it to a dealer...Not about to lose a day of holiday sitting in a dealership. Dangerous but I lived to tell the story! Will get her fixed next week.

Not bad for 2000 miles in a car that is 5 years old, she was a dream to drive and looks great. Hello to the couple on the ferry in the sweet Roadster Alpina!

Alex

Great pictures looks like an excellent trip :driving:

I have been toying with the idea of a road trip for a while now..... I really need to make some plans 8)

If anyone is kean to do a road trip and go everywhere the Sun goes, I will be the first to put my name down..

Would anyone do one?

Lovely pictures!

Looks great, i've taken in some of those roads but not in the zed. I bet the runflats were even bearable on those french/italian roads :D

I'd love to do a trip like that in the Z4 but unfortuantely all my trips into France so far have been driving my van/campervan. Gutting when you come across awesome roads and you're stuck driving a 2-ton VW Transporter with a 130bhp TDI with the Z4 back home

Some good pics in there. We're heading to Finale Ligure (mountain-biking) next year and it's so close to Monaco that we'll certainly be taking a trip along.

Looks great!

Can thoroughly recommend a good road trip. Last year we did France, Italy, Switzerland, France again, Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium all in about 2 weeks - was brilliant. Did the legendary Stelvio Pass which was truly awesome and would love to go back and do it all again.

Will get some pics up when I get around to it.

I like the compliments, thanks!

Stelvio pass sounds amazing but girl friend would have killed me if I had made the holiday ALL about driving!

Great pics need to do a road trip while i have the Z been on some good trips this year just got back from another but nothing in the Z.

Did two runs to Le-Mans last year in the Z plus many in my last car but thats it so driving down to Monaco would be very special :D

Nice pics - and g/f!! I just got back from a week in Gascony with my wife - weather was terrific...we took a drive over the Pyrenees into Spain (Aragon). Its a trip I've done lots of times in a 4x4 but with the sun shining and the roof down it was simply stunning.....and the french autoroutes put our motorways to shame. Coming out of Portsmouth (OK at a slightly illegal late-night speed) my bloody teeth were shaking! LOL)

I know Simorre too...theres an agence immobilier there that we bought our house through six years ago...I wonder if your MIL knows an english woman called Sarah Jane who used to live there...?

I know Sarah! Moved away with Phillipe?

Whereabouts in Gascony were you? We sold our old place through BluHomes some time ago, very nice group of people.

oh and yes, the French roads do put our roads to shame, none of this tram-lining nonsense. That said, they pay for it. We spent approx €250 in tolls over the two weeks.

As an aside, I like the average speed camera that does not do anything but display your number plate in large letters on the side of the road saying "LT11 1111 trop vite". You're famous for a few seconds.
