I know other have done this and it's a fairly simple and useful mod.
I wired into the existing boot/trunk light using wire taps.

This is a view during the day.

This a view at full dark and the boot/trunk is very will lighted.

From a distance you can see how bright the light actually is.

Looks good and seems an easy enough mod

Did you get a bulk buy and do the drive, awning and under the caravan at the same time?

The drive and caravan are AC 120 volt non-LED rope lights. The awning lights are 120 volt LED's and all have been in operation since the summer of 2008. The boot/trunk lights I got from a place that specializes in marine and automotive 12 volt LED. I would like to find a way to make the lighting a little more shielded and therefor more indirect. Anyway until I come up with a better way to position them I have good lighting in the boot/trunk. My main concern was not making it look too bing but wanted the function of good lighting above all else.

Lights look cool 8) , but excuse my ignorance but whats the square thing opposite the tool box??

Battery box on an ///M with motability kit on top. They needed room below the floorpan to fit the second backbox and were too lazy to do the job properly so just stood it in the boot and hid it in a carpet box

Ahh right, forgot about second back box

I did this Mod yesterday afternoon and it is one of the most practical i've done so far. really useful and look pretty cool.

I used something like:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-Blue-45-SMD-LED-Bulb-Flexible-Light-Strip-90cm-12V-/260735623232?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cb50de040

in white

it should be pretty quick to do but i ended up cutting trough a cable in the harness hen trying to free up some slack   so spent some time with my head buried in the boot sniffing solder fumes.

EDIT: the only thing i did slightly different was to put the strip on the underside so you get useful light to the rear of the boot and you cant see them. It looks like WLH has his rear facing (?)

very nice little mod

whats the thing lay on the boot floor, poking out of the battery compartment?

could a 12v socket not be fitted neatly into the side wall of the battery compartment

Very nice little mod. How is the lighting strip fitted. Is it with the backing tape?

it has a self adhesive backing all the way along which is pretty strong. then just splice into the original feed. although i think someones used prototyping board to make an adapter that fits into the original bulb holder which would make the mod quicker.

Well worth doing IMO

This might sound like a silly question, but here is the best place to tap into the original feed? Just at the pre-existing light or elsewhere?

Just did this 2 weeks ago to mine. Slight variation that I used a shorter untra slim strip and fastened it underneath the rear scuttle so not visible outside the car.

Easy to connect into the existing light

The slf adhesive on mine was not strong enough so used some no nails type adhesive and works fine.

Great mod and credit to WLH for this oen.

..and even BMW have spotted it, so they've decided to make a Christmas Tree.....

Yup - just installed mine. Took about 5 minutes and makes such a difference! Will be excellent for when I go camping with the Zed.

I used an old led sidelight plastic adapter to wire mine in:

Plug it into the existing socket and then feed the wire behind the carpet up to the top of the boot.
