A special occasion......!

That`s how EVERY drive has felt, anyway ,since collecting my 3.0si Coupe on Friday afternoon.

I sincerely hope that nothing comes along to cloud the experience of this car for me, as, at the moment, it appears to be something that I have been waiting for a long, long time; suffice it to say, I absolutely LOVE IT !!

I`ve owned quite a lot of cars in the last 8 years, or so......nothing exotic or TOO expensive, as I`m not ashamed to say that I simply don`t earn sufficient money to be at Porsche/Aston level etc....but I`ve earned LOTS of the "usual" suspects for the working man, such as an E46 M3, MK II Audi TT, Scoobies, most of the decent hot-hatches (Golf R32 and GTI, Focus ST, Astra VXR), a Mazda RX8, and a couple of 3 series BMW`s (E90 330d and E92 330d (mapped) ), and I can honestly say that out of all of them, I have probably NEVER been this pleased with a car straight off !

The thing drives BRILLIANTLY; it has beautifully-smooth, responsive engine (especially in Sport-mode LOL), with a fantastic accompanying soundtrack when you open it up, and tremendous grippy-handling which is just grin-inducing the WHOLE time.

Possibly the thing that shines most of all, for me anyway, is the looks ! This car has them in abundance, and is surely one of the finest looking "affordable" cars that has EVER been made. Yes, I know that may sound like an exaggeration, but to ME, it really is that good looking..............WHAT A CAR !!

I must admit, that I have so far found no issues with the runflats, but that may be because I`ve just come from a bone-shakingly hard Alfa Romeo 3.2 V6, and I would add further to that in that the Z4 is actually LESS choppy over road surfaces than the Alfa ever was..........in fact it`s better than the RX8 PZ that I had as well, and also the Scooby STi, which was only shod with 17`alloys, so no, again for me, the runflats don`t feel too bad, but it`s early days so we`ll see.......

Okay, the world would be a perfect place if not for the faults we find, and having waxed-lyrical regarding the good points, it would be totally blinkered of me not to mention the bad points that I`ve found, of which, thankfully, there aren`t many.......

Firstly, the brakes. Pads and discs look fine, but as always seems to be the case with all of the BMW`s that I`ve owned, they never feel that good to me. Maybe it`s just that they`re a bit too progressive for me, with not enough initial bite ? Not sure really, but although absolutely fine, they struck me straight away as being a slightly weak link in the car`s (VERY) impressive armoury.
Perhaps the only other thing I can fault is the 108 wheels. Yes, I have them on, and I`m not quite sure if I was struck with "shiny car syndrome" when I first saw the car, but I just never spotted the corrosion on the insides. I must admit, it came as a major shock when I cleaned the wheels yesterday afternoon, but on coming on here last night, I found out that pretty much everyone has corrosion issues of a varying nature, so in an odd sort of way, that made me feel better ! Now we`re a day on, and I`ve got my head around it, I don`t feel half as bad, and just need now to consider either a refurb, or some new ones altogether, but again, we`ll see........

So yes, there we go, my initial thoughts on my first ever Z4. What a fantastic, beautiful car this is, and BMW should be commended for managing to produce such a finely balanced rocket that goes, handles and cossets the driver just as well as it looks.......

WELL DONE BMW !!!!! 8)

Good to hear you love your new car so much. :) Z4 is so special, many of us here have more than 1 Zed.

Glad your liking you new Z'd, but guessing you haven't driven it in the wet yet, suggest you report back on the run flats then, mine always felt it was just touching the road in the wet the traction was terrible. No doubt gannet will be along to point out not all run flats are the same but bin them and get some proper tyres

Thanks for the replies gents....... 8)

srhutch: I`ll bear it in mind mate, regarding the runflats in the wet, as I certainly don`t want to get caught out.

As I said, early days yet, so the jury`s still out on the runflats, but we`ll see. Thanks for the warning.

Congrats on the new car encee. I know the feeling. I've had mine sine June and still smile every time I get behind the wheel.
I've driven 150 miles from York today in the family Zafira and as soon as I got home - out came the Z and off I went for a spin to blow out the cobwebs.

encee, nice review

You'll be OK in the wet but would keep the DSC on for wet journeys. The RFTs used to drive me mad, I never got rid of mine but I wish I had now.
