Hiya,

Seen a listing on eBay for a proper flip key conversion for £70 that is programmed with a new transponder and looks/feels like a Bentley flip key (unlike the cheap and nasty ones you normally see listed online). The guy lives in Beckton (East London) so as I work in the City, I'll drive in to work one day and and pay him a visit.

He did ask before I order what EWS Control Module I have on my 55 plate 2005 3.0i SE as its a bit of an awkward year as that is when BMW upgraded their EWS modules and for some reason he cant program Version 4 Modules.

I wanted to know if by any chance somebody knew the answer to this question or can tell me how to access the module without taking the car apart?

Thanks,

Billy

Yes mate and I got to say the key is brilliant.

It's not a flimsy replacement cover like you see usually on ebay either.

The bloke's name is Ben and his number is on his website www.bmkeys.com and if you tell him Bily told you to call, you might get a small discount.

Sorry mate you'll have to wait till tomorrow for the pics.

Dropped car off at Styner BMW in High Wycombe yesterday to have roof motor replaced. Read another post where Vines BMW did the job for £590 so got them to email me a quote and Styner price matched it. Well car didn't get done yesterday but as they have given me a loan car and the job is a lot cheaper than it should be from BMW, I said don't worry I'll pick it up today but they did say they will give it a full valet and hand polish for the bother.

They called me today at 3.30pm to say car won't be ready today either as they only started it a while ago and are snowed under. Told him excuses 2 days in a row really ain't good enough especially as I have already paid in cash regardless of what a good deal it was. He asked what I wanted him to do to compensate and I said you think about it andcall me back.

Called back 20 mins later to say they'll refund me some money by dropping the price to £470... Bargain for a new roof pump with BMW warranty so worked well in my favour

I'll post the pics of key tomorrow when I get the car back.

Got the car back and here are the pics of the keys. The flash makes the key look a bit scruffy but if I left the flash off, pic was too dark

Hopefully you can see the quality and that the chrome is actually metal rather than plastic. To give you some idea of the premium feel, the key weighs 65g.

This is defiantly not the cheap crap you usually see on eBay

Bit of an old one... but I'm researching this mod for myself. In particular this Bentley type key as opposed to a BMW type flip key. Hows the key holding up now? I've heard that it charges when driving? So I presume this now doesn't charge?

Very old. A new topic would be better. The flip key has a replaceable coin cell battery, give Ben a call at bmkeys. You can go to him or post your ews module.

I was more interested in how the key is holding up to be honest. We've all mostly got standard BMW keys, some of which may well be original and going 'strong' after over a decade. Just wondering how this aftermarket one was doing and if it's had problems, packed up, etc.

But yeah might as well give Ben a call and see what my options are.

Cheers!

The one benefit I see is that if the flip mech doesn't hold up it can easily be swapped. I've not heard of any problems on here with them but have only had mine a few months.
