Brake overhaul COMPLETE pictures

I need to replace all my discs and pads. I've done a bit of research and am thinking ATE discs and Textar pads. Need some advice though.

Should I also replace the shoes?
Should I replace the pad wear sensors?
Is is worth forking out an extra £60 in total for the Textar e-pads? (I've read they're low brake dust)
Any other recommendations?

Fitted Textar E pads and Pagid discs to mine last year, must say I'm impressed by the E pads very progressive even from first fitting them and virtually no dust.
As for the parking brake shoes, unless someone has been driving around with the handbrake on they will be fine - mine had 50k on them when I changed the discs and they were unworn .

I'll echo the parking brake comment , I replaced discs and pads on a 90 k car and there was no real wear , it's only for stopping he car from moving when parked .
 
you might also look at the EBC range. Good quality disks and low dust pads. Green or red will be fine, depending on how you drive

Replace sensors if you're had the brake warning light on. Hey are fragile so easily broken so be ready to have to get new ones. I generally don't replace.
 
I fitted mtec grooved+drilled discs with the mintex pads they offer and I'm well impressed. excellent stopping power, well modulated braking and very reasonably priced too. Oh, and they look good!!
 
Would recommend the e-pads too. Low dust, decent feel and I was impressed that one of mine recently survived a stuck calliper - disc was glazed and I had to replace the calliper, but the pad and disc bedded in just fine afterwards.

Discs are Brembo high carbon - fronts are UV coated but the rear, 294mm, doesn't seem to be available with the coating. :(
 
Thanks for all the advice guys. I'm trying to stay as close to OEM with looks otherwise grooved discs and EBC pads would probably top my list.

I think I'll order sensors with a view to return them if I don't use them.

The brembo UV coated discs are very interesting. I like the idea of some rust proofing. MrPT were did you purchase them from?

Are there any other coated discs available? Otherwise should I paint the disc centres from day 1 or wait till they rust?

The Brembo fronts for the 3.0si (325mm) are part number 09.8952.11. Here is the relevant link from the place I bought mine from.

Rears are 09.9869.80 and they aren't coated so you need to paint the hubs and edges (e.g. with smooth hammerite) if you want to stop the rust. Best to do this before you fit them - the surface rust is easy to clean off the discs when they are fitted, but cleaning and painting the vents is a bit fiddly.
 
Cheers MrPT. I get the impression that 09.9869.81 are coated rears but I can't find them for sale.on any UK sites. That the same issue you had?

Yes. They aren't in the Brembo catalogue either (or weren't when I looked, anyway). Be careful because some sites seem to have invented that product code and then when you read the Ts & Cs they say they will supply "this part or similar from the following other suppliers...". No thanks!
 
Cool. Think I'll avoid. Though I really like the idea of coated discs if I can't find a reputable set front and rear (non grooved/drilled) I'll go ATE and paint them.

I've just found out the ate discs are coated too! :) Time to go shopping. Anyone bothered to do anything with the anti-rattle clips? I'm thinking about a small black BMW decal and some laquer.

With the mtec discs, how's the noise ?
I want the drilled version in a few weeks but heard they are noisier than solid.

They were off the dreaded E-bay. Can't remember exactly who off but just search for custom high temperature vinyl stickers, they didn't cost much. No I haven't laquered them but one did come off when I got a bit close with the power washer :oops: .Up until then they were fine.

Found this in my purchase history....Hope it helps.
