Over the past few weeks I've seen a fair few posts on here, with people having custom backboxes made, not being able to find a good off the shelf cat-back system etc.

It's something I've been looking into myself for a fair while and not really getting anywhere - The only options are the Supersprint system, which I don't like the design of , with it going from Two into One prior to entering the backbox, and only really being just over half of a cat-back system (and I'm not made of money), then there's the Eisenmann system, which just doesn't look very nice (in my opinion of course).

Anyway - Opportunity presented itself the other day when the guys from Scorpion Exhausts were at my work place for a business meeting.
I mentioned to Shaun (managing director of Scorpion Exhausts) about there being nothing available for my Z4 Coupé 3.0si and offered him my personal vehicle for a few weeks to develop a few options either for cat-back systems or rear silencers.

At this point, I'm looking to gather interest on behalf of Scorpion Exhausts for this system and would be looking to do an introductory group buy of some sort with them. Now at this point, and until the development work has been done, we won't be able to give any specifics on pricing, but I was hoping to get a bit of a list together of people interested in going for one of these systems as part of a group buy.
We're looking to keep to the original pipe run, with a twin system all the way into the rear silencer and twin tailpipes, slightly bigger than original, in the Scorpion "Daytona" tailpipe style as they use on their very popular E46 M3 Systems. Whether a centre silencer unit will or won't be used, this will all depend on various testing done by Scorpion during the development period.

Let's see if we can start a list to see who would be interested in joining to group buy once these are in production!

Update: Now added to the Awesome GTI Website!

This is very interesting. I was considering a custom back box from cybox at £220. Basically I want to hear more sound from the straight six - will this system release the aural delights I'm after? Also I would find it a bit tricky to commit to this group buy without at least a ball-park figure.

Will they fit the 3.0 si Roadster if so I may well be interested

Absolutely. The underside of the three following models are identical:
* Z4 Roadster (E85) 2.5si
* Z4 Roadster (E85) 3.0si
* Z4 Coupé (E86) 3.0si

Fully understand where you're coming from. It's difficult to judge anything price wise until the guys at Scorpion even at least make a start on the development work, as until that point, they just won't know what components are going to be involved/required to make up the system.
Having a Friend/Colleague with a Scorpion Exhaust on his E46 M3, I'd be expecting a deeper richer sound than standard, without an excessive amount of rasp as has been seen with some other exhausts.

Potentialy interested depending on price/sound/quality etc.

:thumbsup:

would be interested if they did it for an older 3.0i but guessing that's a different exhaust config

Anyone developing an exhaust for the Z4 should look closely at the system you get on an Alpina Z4 IMO. The sound is absolutely sublime, could not be more perfect if you ask me and even better than a Z4m. No idea how they achieved it but I'm sure some of the exhaust bods out there will know.

:thumbsup:

Quite agree excessive rasp would be a no no for me

Interested for a 2004 roadster 3.0, also would they consider doing it so the pipes exit in the middle of the exhaust like on the v6 jag f-type, but unsure as to what might be in the way
Thanks

Unfortunately they are slightly different as the 3.0i runs it's catalysts under the car, rather than high up at the manifold

Yes would be interested if this fits a 2004 Z4 3.0se Roadster, also depends on price :-)
Unfortunately the 3.0se is the same as the 3.0i and has a different layout where due to the location of the cats.

A little bit is OK, but it's easy to have too much rasp!

Sorry Mark, this isn't a custom option. It's development for a production system, so it'll be specific to the 'si' models with the N52 engine.

I'm interested. Would be nice if they could T into it to have another 2 tailpipes on the O/S/R. :thumbsup:

Absolutely, if all goes ahead, I'll make sure there are plenty of photographs and a reasonable amount of video/sound clips.

At this point development is looking to be around mid March for development, but just waiting for confirmation on the date.

Would it be possible when you next speak with your scorpion contact, to ask if there's enough interest would they do a system for the earlier engined cars, thanks

I'll certainly ask the question yes!

I would think they would fit all models? As far as I have been able to tell the pipe nun and diameter is the same on all but the 2.0l cars.
