Spotify through Bluetooth

Post by Ronnie_space » Sun Jul 03, 2016 6:21 pm

Hi All,

Two questions:

1. Is there anyway to connect my Iphone 6S wirelessly to play music from Spotify through my system? (other than AUX) Car has following options.

644 PREP. FOR. MOB. PH. BLUET. INTERF.

662 RADIO BMW BUSINESS CD

676 HIFI LOUDSPEAKER SYSTEM

692 CD CHANGER I-BUS PREPARATION

2. Can you get a Iphone 6s quick cradle adaptor?

Many Thanks!

I use my Parrot CK3100 - Plus point is that as my car has the speaker/amp upgrade, the signal from the parrot goes into the amy via line in, therefore using the car's amp, and not the crappy Parrot one. Sound quality is EXCELLENT!

Parrot took 20 mins to fit with an ISO adaptor into the rear of the head unit.

I also have cd changer preparation.
Grom usb3 module, plugs straight in.
It'll charge you iPhone, play it directly by the cable, or by Bluetooth when the cable isn't connected to the phone.
Changes spotify tracks via steering wheel, volume control etc. Track names also on the stereo.
No mods required at all to the car.

Speak with Richard.

Thanks all for great response.

Rialas, that sounds really interesting- will call them tomorrow!

I presume you run a USB cable from this to somewhere in the storage compartment between the seats?

Found this link showing Grom USB3 installation.

Not really sure what it is demonstrating though, apart from track names perhaps.

Hi Ronnie. I just tucked the usb cable under the lower edge of the centre consul and up to the phone (running from the boot). I just hide the cable under the seat when I don't need to charge the phone. As soon as you unplug the cable, Bluetooth music streaming takes over.
You can see the song title on the display.
Brodit phone holder, no drilling to the car, and clear view windscreen. Cool.

+1 on the brodit mount, had one in both my Zs

Spotify works fine through an intravee with my iPhone 6s, track info on the nav screen, change tracks using the steering wheel. Installation is reasonably involved though, and if you don't have the nav screen it's not really worth it. Better going the Rialas route.

I picked up the Grom IPD4 unit and Bluetooth module. Have temporarily installed and it works great. Spotify through Bluetooth with steering wheel controls and track text. Thanks for the advice, Richard at car-puter was super helpful.

Now just to get the boot trim back in properly! Was a bit involved getting to the CD changer!

Do you mind me asking exactly what you bought here? And how much it set you back?

Mega interested.

Cheers

Thanks all for the help.

I fitted the Grom IPD4 unit and Bluetooth module in the boot. I ran an Iphone lighting cable discretely to the side of center console down by my seat, so I can charge my phone directly and lay it in center console tray. I also fitted the microphone that came with the kit just above the door/window pillar behind the driver. This means I can use Siri, just by saying 'hey siri' or pressing the phone button on steering wheel I can use voice control for texts, music, calls and sat nav which is a neat feature.

No modifications to car required, fits seamlessly and works well with spotify. OEM look maintained.

Hi -
My wife just bought an 07 z4 and we are really enjoying it -
While the car is equipped with an AUX input, I would like to add bluetooth connectivity to cut down on the cable clutter.
This forum has been very helpful and I may go with the grom device.
However, our z4 has a white plastic plug/clip hanging in the center storage compartment - does anyone know what this is? I am guessing it is an add-on from a previous owner. I am attaching a photo-
Thanks

Looks like a meaty connector! Maybe for a mini fridge install that previous owner retained?
Is there any feint smell of champagne in the cabin?
