Hi All

Taking delivery of 62 plate 2.0 on Monday , due to it being a company car and needing it quick (5 series went back , electrical faults) I have a standard stereo ....... Reading about these the speakers appear of a poor quality .... Looking to swap out if possible for some aftermarket units , can't damage the interior in anyway , suggestions please ....

Thanks ( first post pics will follow )

All depends on your budget.

Your best bet is to go down to your local audio shop and have a listen to different offerings. Decent spekars (read: not that halfords rubbish) are all designed and made differently and thus sound different.

FInd a set that suits your ears.

If you do go, ask them to turn off any equalisers they may have on (usually to make one type of speaker sound better usually with the biggest margin!) and ideally take along some of your own music with you.

Thanks , do you know size of standard speakers and output of head unit ? ,

not entirely sure.

you may have a 1" tweeter in your sail panels a 4 inch midrange speaker in the door and a 6.5 or 8 under the seat.

Car audio security (http://www.caraudiosecurity.com) are running the Hertz MIle 3 way component in their M3 demo car. Whilst it isn't the most ideal placement for speakers it does sound impressive.

As for the power output I'm unsure on that but you may want to consider an amplifier just to give yourself some headroom.

There are a few threads on this. It's a fair bit of work.

Speakers or mounts require some trimming etc

You can buy the uprated speakers from BMW which are a straight fit but as mentioned without then adding an amp the benefit will be minimal.

I'd wait until you get it before considering this, you might be able to make do.

Manic - thanks for the post , makes sense to wait but think I will need to do something , probably update the rears and add an underseat sub , if it fits . Roll on Monday ....... :D

Updating the rears won't help without an amp as they are EQ'd by the head unit.

An under seat sub will help with thump but won't help clear up the signal and it will sound unbalanced, no half way house unfortunately, it's new speakers and amp or make do IMHO.
