Well I thought it was just the ghost whistle

So the other day a new guy i'm working with and me go to lunch and he comments about my annoying ghost whistle. I told him I figured it was normal. Well he decides to mention it to his buddy who used to work on bmw's (maybe still does) and he thinks it could be a vacuum line. So I get to looking on my car even though I've looked before, for any loose or cracked hoses. Sure enough I spy a big cracked one. It's the tube that comes after the MAF and goes into the engine block, the little oh about 1 1/2 inch wide (thats a wild guess) is the piece that is cracked. I'm pretty sure it is p/n 13547514867 off the http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT53&mospid=47799&btnr=13_0995&hg=13&fg=15 site. Index 5 if you look at the FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM.

So my question is this. It seems a fairly straight forward swap (granted will be annoying, hoses suck) but is there anything I should look out for? Any way I could by chance, prevent this from happening again or could it of just been from age?

Here is a pic, obviously the middle hose has the crack. The big tube going left is the tube from the MAF and my little cracked tube goes into the eng. I didn't even bother figuring out what the right one went into. So do I have the right p/n off the realoem site?

At any rate it's ordered. Should be in Thursday, though I probably won't be able to pick it up till Friday due to my schedule. I hope I can get it thursday though because I'll just work on it at work after my shift and have all the handtools I would need for free vs going to the base hobby shop.

Update:

Ok, R2'd mine. It is a straightforward replacement. Took the car for a quick test drive around the block, the cracked hose was definitely a contributor to the whistle, it was a lot louder with the crack than it is with the new part. Now I notice a whistle but it's quite faint. Same situation though, reckon I'll be grabbing a mirror and looking at the rest of my hoses as well.

I have recently joined this forum as a member, (been a lurker for a few months).
And I had the "whistle" as well, actually I kind of liked the turbo sound

But after reading some topics about this, I realised this was a problem.
Thanks to the forummembers and reading some previous topics i found the problem
Here is a picture of my hose whilst still attached to the engined 0c24091542fd5b0b3cfa6d02413d55b4_zpsad54fc1e.jpg
That didn't look good, so I ordered a new one at a German webshop for €26.

The hoseclamps were a bit hard to reach, but after all it was a quick fix. :driving:
New and old one together, the little hose is almost completely torn.
