Plastic seal below windshield problem

Hey guys, I was cleaning my Z this weekend and I noticed the plastic below the windshield is very brittle and has cracks in it and when I touched it, a piece of it broke off right below the VIN number. Anybody experience this or know if it can be fixed without replacing the whole piece. Here are some pictures of what I am talking about. Thanks for the help.

Is that plastic or rubber that has dry-rotted? Is there an independent glass shop nearby you could ask about a repair to just that area?

It's a real simple single piece of trim to replace. Take the wiper arms off an unclip it.

No idea of your car age/model details but a quick look on RealOEM shows it as a $58 part

Also note it's cosmetic only and has no sealing or purpose other than decorative trim

Thanks, thats a big help. I have a 2003 2.5. I searched forever for that and couldn't find that diagram. I thought it would be more expenive than $58 since it is such a big piece. I called the dealer and they said it was $81. Where can i order it for the $58 price?

Glad it helped - You're on your own regards price. That something you'd have to follow up with Real OEM or in the US.

but isn't the gasket part of the rubber part that's broken or am I looking at the wrong area?

If you're talking about #7 in the diagram, isn't that the soft foam at the base under the hood/bonnet?

You're right Smokin - No 7 is a rubber cushion along the top of the trim that the rear of the bonnet (OK hood) sits on. There is no seal or gasket and this trim piece #6 just clips bown and the rubber (which is showndamaged in the photos) presses on the windscreen. Sometimes window fitters add some glue if it lifts, but that's it.

Ok guys, so I finally got around to replacing this piece. I picked it up today and plan on replacing it this afternoon. Has anyone removed this before? It looks like it is only attached by plastic clips. So all I should have to do is remove the wipers and pop it off, correct? The piece I am replacing is #1 in the diagram. Thanks for your help!
