Yay free swimming pool in my boot...

So I've had my sDrive 23i (2010) for about 15 months and had no problems at all with it, however when I went to get the locking wheel nut adapter from the well in the boot (which contains battery and hydraulic pump for roof) I found it contained about an inch of water.

Obviously I cleared the water with plenty of kitchen roll, however a few days (and plenty of rain) later, it had filled up again with about an inch of water. I decided to try the roof and sadly it does not work, the side windows roll down and it tries to lift the rear window however gets about 1cm and then goes up and down until the warning chime comes on. It does close properly however.

So...

Firstly any ideas where the leak is coming from? The boot seals are fine and there's nowhere obvious where the water is getting in, a few posts seem to suggest the rear light cluster is the issue?

Secondly I'm hoping I can dry the various electrical terminals on the roof control unit and all will work ok...

Any comments/suggestions would be welcomed to prevent this in the future!

When you look inside the boot, is there a small green rivet on the right hand side of the boot ? (On the solid plastic trim? That indicates that a recall was conpleted on some boot seals/vents that could let water in. If not you might want to chat with your dealer and see if a recall was done and if not then a chat about a contribution to any parts or work required to fix it.

Yes there is, I had wondered what that was for.

Hi and welcome aboard
Haven't had that problem myself (or remember a thread on it ) try using the search button :)
I have searched through quite a few threads
I'm going to pour water over the outside and see how/where it drains - in the light tomorrow...

Problem with this is is acts differently to rain water so you might not get the same results.

Yeah fair point, it might point to something obvious though.

What is that green button for on the lower right side of boot. When i have had the rear cluster off it is connected via green plastic cord around towards the petrol flap.
Have been very careful not to pull it, but looks like its meant to be pulled.
If you can remove the trim behind the tail lights you will see two rubber ovalish seals. Make sure they are fitted correctly as all the water from the sides of the boot lid drains over the innerside of the tail lights. Crap design.

Have a good look at your rear light clusters, check there's no water getting into them behind the lenses. A leaking light caused my boot to fill with water in the battery bay and also the storage compartment on the left side of the boot

When had leaks in cars in the past, trying placing some toilet or kitchen roll paper around the boot under the trim, or remove trim first.

Might be able to trace where its coming from or its path.
