I Need a new TV, is this one OK

I've got a Panasonic, I'd rate them every time. The only other brand I'd look at in this budget range might be Samsung ? Looks like this one is a decent spec, full HD with a decent number of HDMI ports. Pretty good For £499, let alone the discount price

I need 3 HDMI (or will need), a lot only seem to have two.

I had a quick look at Samsung and LG but the Pana seems to have the best spec out of the lot and the better reviews.

Pana always tops the Which tests and their reliability surveys .

Also the one you highlighted is smart so has wifi connection ,brilliant for iPlayer etc

TV looks good, Panasonic is a good make. Be careful with Comet though - I bought a Samsung 51" 3D TV from Comet last November, and it didn't work out of the box. They took a week to arrange a collection and exchange. Also, it was meant to be provided with free 3D glasses. They didn't arrive in the first box, was assured they would be in the second box (they weren't) and took another week to arrive ... won't be getting my next TV from there, will be getting another store to 'price match'.

I know what you mean about Comet, Currys and the like, but looking around there isn't much choice. Nearest shop with stock is 30 mile away or delivery Sunday.

Not sure what to do

Just remembered about John Lewis who give a free 5 year guarantee.

Don't think the spec is as good, although the price is the same as comet etc for identical model TX-P42X50B

Reserve it, go to the store, get them to plug it in and show you it works and has all the bits if you're not sure. You are well within your rights to ask this. Don't faff around till the offer is gone or stock is out on such a good deal - right spec, right brand, right price, just do it

As an aside, in Malaysia they insist on plugging electrical goods in and showing you they work before you go home with it...

I have the one you linked to at John Lewis, it's been great. Not full HD though, the one at Comet is a much better spec and the price seems pretty good TBH.

Thanks Mike, needed somebody to confirm spec is not as good.

Will go for the comet one

got the model prior to this one and its never failed me in the 4.5 years ive had it. its not full HD but the quality is amazing none the less.

panasonic always gtes my vote - I wouldn't touch LG under any circumstances based on past experience.

I have a Panasonic having sent back a Samsung because the picture was awful and I couldn't get it right. The Panasonic was great from turning it on.

I bought a 42" Panasonic plasma from John Lewis a few months back
(TX42S30B) IIRC

Apart from an occasional funny clicking noise all seems fine and the picture quality for sport and film is brilliant.

the one you link to looks pretty similar so I guess it will do the job.

my old panasonic (crt) blew up after just 3 years

might have had something to do with the amount of dust lying around the house while we did it up... we will never know...

yeh stick with Pana, i work for www.hugheselectrical.co.uk and we're the service agents for all the brands and we see a hell of a lot more LG's and Samsungs come back with problems

and with the regard to the John Lewis 5yr cover, if you make a claim you have to pay for all the work done then claim it back from them, and they do have the right to decline paying out in some circumstances.

and with richersounds always confirm its a brand new item boxed, i.e not been on display and returned (i've had customers complain about that in the past)

also Panasonic are running a free 5yr guarantee at the mo so you can get that in store at selected retailers
