2003 - 2008 Z4 convertible - Trunk LED light kit

I use ultra bright Cool white (6000k) HID colored LED's strip.

LED TRUNK LIGHT KIT - $30
includes USPS First class shipping (USA)
International shipping, please add $12

LED strip has a 3 foot wire harness soldered on and includes adhesive squares, zip ties and T-tap connectors.

The install:
Clean the under side of the trunk lip and install the LED strip (I use upgraded adhesive tape on all of my LEDS), add adhesive square and zip tie, unplug the existing truck light and install the "T tap connectors and with the new light strip wires.

Thanks for looking and happy motoring!

Currently I am using "T-tap connectors" but searching for a female plug that will fit the OEM trunk light male plug.

The install is pretty straight forward, unplug the existing trunk light push the tape back exposing the 2 wires and add the T-tap connector.

I've done the same but $42 is well OTT, it only cost me about £5 inc postage for the self-adhesive ribbon LED from eBay - Stu Boy and Lynchy were looking at it during our Shepshed weekend

Pretty steep for a kit posted to the UK but GLWTs.

This is what you need for the boot light end.

And this is what you need for the LED Strip:

That's a good price Perry :)
This is the sort of thing I got but a bit cheaper - the seller I got mine from has disappeared - £3.95 inc postage for a 1m strip, then you just have to connect to the boot light - you can use the sort of thing that Scooba_Steve posted but I soldered a short tail onto the boot light and crimped bullet connectors to connect up the strip, all wiring hidden behind the boot lining

I've got two strips, ordered white and they supplied blue. Complained obviously so got the whit set.

Me being me though still waiting to be fitted.

I thought the boot bulb was still a festoon type bulb.

When I joined this site I didn't notice that most members and not in the USA, so yes the light kit isn't work paying the international shipping.

yup same bought a strip on ebay for less than a fiver and wired it into the excisting boot light on the right hand side, 15min job, didn't use connectors etc just stripped the wire and added it to the bulb connections

this looks like something that's worth doing (and cheap)! how did u guys connect the led strip to the underside in the boot?

and I'm guessing there's no resistors etc that need wiring in, just connect and away ya go?

If you buy the right ones they have a self-adhesive backing so it's very easy.

No resistors to add and I connected directly to the boot light connectors using the following method

- Remove the light by prising out of the boot lining and disconnect the small plug (make sure it doesn't pull back into the lining or it's a pain to retrieve)

- Solder a short 2-core lead to the copper bulb connectors with female bullet connectors crimped on at the other end. You can connect the strip direct to the connectors but I wanted to make it easy to replace the strip should it become necessary, so this lead should be long enough to reach from the light, up behind the boot lining and out at the top

- Replace the boot light, feeding the short lead through the hole and up behind the boot lining so the bullet connectors are feeding over the top

- Crimp male bullet connectors on the end of the LED strip tails (mine were about 24" long with a small power adaptor plug that had to be cut off)

- Stick LED strip in place

- Test the polarity of the connection by lightly inserting the bullet connectors (the LED will only work with the +/- on the correct leads so swap if necessary)

- Insert bullet connectors firmly and feed any spare power lead behind boot lining

Have a look at my links - there are connectors for the LED strip that are really easy to attach (I added two smaller strips at the sides to illuminate further back.
You can also get adaptors for the lamp housing, makes it quick and easy to switch back to stock.

You can do it quite a few different ways, however you do it the outcome is the same and much better :)
