Hi,

I bought these from fellow forum member, monaco_blue, in the summer and they have been in storage ever since. They are brand new, in their original boxes and have never had tyres fitted.

I'm selling them for what I bought them for which is £1425, collected from Aylesbury, Bucks. No offers, but I can post them if you are willing to wait a little while for me to arrange it.

Fancy hanging onto these until you inevitably end up selling your new M Coupe to me...? You know after I've worn you down :P

How about you buy them as an investment? Better than money in the bank... :P

Why are you selling them put them on the coupe!

Good question... I wouldn't say I've had sleepless nights over this, but almost! There are a few reasons.

I'm not keen on the 224s that are currently on the car, but the 18" PSS on them are nearly new and I'd lose a lot of their value if I sold them. So a lighter weight, more modern 18" rim is tempting. I'm also not massively keen on reducing ride quality any further by moving to 19s, although I admit the CSLs just look so damn right on this car that it might just be worth it.

I've got some inner clearance issues to think about with 8.5J fronts because of the KW springs, but I'm less concerned about this now that I've had a bit of help from the forum to figure things out. CSLs with 12mm spacers should work, but the tolerances will be very small (I would guess they'd clear the spring by about 3mm). In the process of working out all the offsets and clearances I've looked at a lot of 18 rims and the Apex ARC-8s or EC-7s are really appealing, despite not quite looking as good as the CSLs.

What I am currently thinking is that 225/40/19 and 255/35/199 would work on the CSLs and keep a decent sidewall height (1cm more than 235/35/19 and 265/30/19, and 1cm less than stock), but I'd reduce the amount of rim protection a little. It's not essential I go to wider tyres on 19s because this needs to be a setup that works on crap roads and I think I'd only be desperate for a 235/245 front if I tracked the car regularly.

So... lots of thoughts! Tomorrow I'm going to take some measurements of the current setup and maybe that will help with the fannying around. There is so little in it though, that I'd be prepared to let these go for the asking price if someone wants them. If I sold them I could afford to buy the Apex 18s and a decent set of winter rubber for the 224s, so that wouldn't exactly be a sh*t result. :)

Well to help you out maybe...

I would keep the 224s as people seem to like to buy them looking OEM, so if you ever came to sell the car there would be no worries. The 224s really aren't worth a great deal anyway so might be worth keeping them depending on what you decide.

I live out in the country so really bad roads etc my 224s had MPS all round and i didn't find that much of a difference going from them to the CSLs with Vreds, although my car had been lowered about as far as you could go so that may be the reason. So it didn't really bother me, I would put the 224s on in the winter so not to chip the CSLs and put the CSLs on during summer. IMO they are the best OEM looking wheel for the Z4M, people may say they are common but real CSLs are hard to come by and if the car is kept tastefully OEM its the best combo for a couple. Obviously IMO not everyone agrees.

CSLs also look damn fine with silver grey, its the classic BMW motorsport combo... BMW M3 CSL... Thats where I got my inspiration for mine from.

Also the CSLs will always be worth money!

Just a thought.

Ok. Think I will give the CSLs a go - you've convinced me. I did buy them months before buying the car, I was that dead set on them, so I should probably at least man up and see out my original plan. :)

Mods - have updated the title to reflect the fact that these are no longer for sale. Not sure whether it is appropriate to leave this thread unlocked, so feel free to close it. Cheers.

I can see the man maths logic mr Pt but i wouldn't drop the CSLs for the Apex :? backward move imo

Backward step in terms of what? Can't think of one reason why the would be the case....

I'd rather put the money into Apex wheels myself, much lighter, will improve the ride and performance, can stick with 18" as not to over wheel a roadster (can get away with 19" on the coupe) and not nearly so common. Sadly too many people are buying fakes and it's just ruined the look, shame as they were the dogs dangles 5 or 6 years ago. All IMO :) :)

Backward move unless like you,ve stated you are looking to lighten up the car for race or track ?
The looks of the Apex are more subjective ( i'm not a fan btw ) whereas the CSLs especially genuine are a proven class act that cannot be faulted
