i was scrolling through some interior pics on tinternet and saw that on a few pictures (all of them LHD cars) there was a sport button where there should be one but in the exact same position on the other side in relation to the gear stick there was another button/dial on the passenger side--- does anyone know what it is??!! :?

It turns off the passenger airbag.

The ever-elusive ISOFIX option. £55 as a factory option, the wrong side of £550 as a retrofit (and nobody wants to touch it due to potential liability anyway!)

It doesn't turn off the airbag. There is a key operated switch in the end of the dash that does that. It is an indicator light to tell you that the airbag is turned off.

Isofix makes my car a practical family hatchback :)

I wasn't aware that it was rare. My old couple had it. (never used - no kids!) :D

2007 onwards as standard in the M I believe. Only needs turning off for rear facing seats anyway.

mystery solved........ but why on earth someone would want to fit a rear facing child seat in the car is beyond me, kids that small would surely vom everywhere (combo of hard ride, manic acceleration and loud sound track)

I'll have to have a look for the key hole in the dash as I'm sure I've never seen it  It definitely doesn't act as a button as I've tried it a few times :D

lets you attach a child seat if I recall?

I wouldn't allow a child in my car :o

Isofix can also be used for forward-facing seats, though you don't turn the airbag off if using one of them. Never had it, but it's two bug buckles firmly booted to the innards of the seat that you clip an appropriately equipped child's seat to. Much safer than the tied-to-the-seatbelts variety of child seat in a serious accident. That said, never had an issue with my son's when he still used one in the Z I had back in 2007. He loved it - got a better view than me, and was always egging me on

Well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it

Why would i want to fit a rear facing child seat? So i could drop my son off at Nursery. Otherwise we would be entirely dependant on my wife's car which wouldn't really be acceptable. I couldn't turn the airbag off in my previous 2 seater, so the Z4MC is a practical solution :) At least that's what i keep telling my wife.

Our son is in a forward facing child seat now so the airbag issue is no longer a problem. And he has never been sick in a car (he says, desperately holding on to a piece of wood).

This was standard on all US models of the E85 & 86. It is in fact for child seats and should be turned off as well if you have your dog riding with you in that seat as well.

The child in me comes out every time I drive my Zed... it's playtime...

So, there's a couple contradictory comments in this thread, to clarify can anyone confirm whether a forward facing child seat CAN be used with the airbag system active? My car has not got the deactivation switch and I want to use it to transport my little boy who has just swappped into forward facing seat......... Hopefully the right answer will stop me having to buy a family eurobox.
