Inquiring about Exhausts for Z4M

I owned a TVR T350 with one of those exhausts and what a noise. If you can get close to that noise with the zed I'm in

Thanks Animal
yeah I designed that system working to a brief from the factory.
However the after market pipe I designed was far more "in keeping" with the ethos of the car - billet aluminium exhaust tips cnc machined

Hi bud,
I'm a newbie myself - on the lookout for a Z4MC.
So I noticed your interest in the exhaust....
Well it just so happens that my company BCS Automotive will be developing a high end valvetronic exhaust specifically for the Z4M - hence my desire to source one myself.
We recently completed a project on the BMW 1M which has an acute boom problem in the cab at around 70mph in top - exactly where you don't want it!
Answer, we used exhaust gas by pass valves and amended the silencer layout introducing a new center silencer. The result is amazing - understated sports tone at idle and low revs - which cuts loose as the car comes on boost completely bypassing the rear silencer, to reveal a truly titanic sound completely in keeping with the car's ethos.
Enough of the verbaling, if I can help feel free to get in touch.
Best regards
Nige
:)

I'm very interested in this too... Seems we're forming a steady queue before you've even started :P
Oh, and welcome. Good luck with the search

Thanks - Tony from Liverpool, is coming across on Saturday with his Z4M.
We're going to begin the appraisal and draft up the initial designs - can't wait to get into this project, especially after the results with the 1M on John Dunn's car.
Valvetronic is the only way forward to capture the full potential of this cars orchestral soundtrack.
Bring it on !!

Perhaps a dedicated thread of this? If the Administrator is alright with it?

Thanks Tony for bringing across your fantastic Z4 MC on Saturday and offering the use of your baby to develop the new Valvetech exhaust system.
Just thought I'd give a hint on this thread and show the 1M exhaust system that we developed on John Dunn's car which completely eliminated the exhaust boom in the car at 70mph, which at a pre determined point in the boost curve allows the rear silencer to be completely by passed releasing an amazing tone.
The word's cake and eat it come to mind.

OK, thanks to Animal, I now have the Remus back boxes on

Bar videos on youtube (so difficult to accurately record what any exhaust really sounds like) all I had to go on was some online reviews on UK and US forums: overall most seemed happy with them but some said they wished they were a little louder.

As the boxes were second hand and at a reasonable price I thought I’d just bite the bullet and if they’re not to my taste I can always sell them on. They arrived on Thursday and were fitted Saturday morning.

I’d say they could be a bit louder, if I was scoring them I’d give them 7.5/10 for volume. People want different things from exhausts of course, but I wanted a slightly louder note than they give. The car does sound meaner and I think that fits it as the OE sound at idle and normal driving was a little too civilised I felt. There’s no drone thankfully, so normal and motorway driving is no problem at all. At idle and up to around 2.5-3k rpm there’s definitely a louder, deeper and more bassy sound which I like; at higher revs as the car screams like normal.

So it’s a nice improvement, definitely better than OE to my ears, and good value I think. Had I paid full price I’d be a little disappointed, but at £350 I’m happy with the upgrade. The embossed ‘REMUS’ script on the tailpipes looks quite good too – it looks like you’ve got a bit of a special system fitted – though I do prefer the insides of the OE tips as once they’re polished and clean they do look smart whereas the inside of the Remus is black.

I’m still very interested in hearing other exhaust set-ups and if I heard something that was definitely better (to my ears) and didn’t cost an absolute fortune I may well try something else, but as it stands it’s a definite improvement :)

I personally like the OEM system sound the best.

The Remus system looks nice and neat, similar note and nice looking back boxes (Black), decent sized tips! That would be my choice.

+1. I like them on mine, its just as the OEM but turned up to 11 or 12. You don't have to get the ACS Sports trim either (most people don't like it), you can get the OEM look strait from Remus.

Might need more induction noise afterwards though...

^^^ I have the AFE system on my car in that clip. You can hardly hear it through the headers / Remus tho.
But ya, love the sound...

The aFe intake + OEM system would be the best set up if you don't want it too loud or boomy. I think I would have been happy with that set up, but the Eisenmann pop's and crackles, so love that too.

Just a quick update on the Remus back boxes I have:

I am liking them more and more! :) And I think at full chat they do scream a little more mentally! Right now I'm not sure I would want to go any louder either. Not sure if they've settled and sound better (they're 2nd hand so figured they'd not need to settle in) or I've just got used to them? Anyways, very pleased with the aural upgrade :D
