Diff input seal

Post by VRSteve » Tue Dec 26, 2017 2:18 pm

Under the car today taking the back boxes off (sh***y job) and noticed I have a leak from the diff.

It looks like its coming from the input seal.

Has anyone done one, or had one done??

Ta!

Diff input seal

Post by srhutch » Tue Dec 26, 2017 3:30 pm

I think the output seals are a bit easier to do than the input seal. I'm going to check mine before it gets driven again and give it all a good clean up underneath.

Looks easy enough, dropping the x-pipe I think will be the pain, the rest looks straight forward

I think the issue is getting the pre load right. How hard that is I don’t really know.

From what I've read, people mark the nut location in respect to the input shaft and return the nut to that position on re-fitting.

That is the normal procedure when you're just changing out the seal.

Has anyone done one, or had one done??

Hello VRSteve,

Had the same problem recently and got it done by dealer; I understand it takes approx 3 hrs and it ended up being quite expensive because of labour. Can share details via PM if interested.
