Fitting RPI skid plates Yes or No...?

I had some front bumper damage on my M. There was a hole in the road just before a cerb (I was parking). This way the front bumper suddenly came lower and I hid a cerb with the fang. The fang was slightly damaged, but the paint was cracked some 15cm high. My front bumper is now completely repainted and looks brand new... I was thinking of fitting RPI skid plates for more protection... What are the opinions about these?

I have found some negative comments about them...

i had them... when i did scrap my fangs... these plates actually (IMO) made the situation worse.. the edge of the plate caught, and then caused the fangs to bend, and crazed the paint... if i hadn't had the RPI skid plate i know i would have scraped the underside of the spoiler... but it most likely would not have pulled and ruined the paint.... cost me over $700 to repaint... i took the plates off the next day and tossed them into the trash. i don;t recommend them.... obviously... just thought you should know.

I've learned to accept occasional scraping of the fangs. I have the skid plates on though so at least it makes it a little better. Sometime you just can't avoid it. Just don't run the fangs too hard into the ground or the skid plates will do more damage to the fangs than the ground.

it may be that there could be an impact under the car and the plate imo would stop a crack in the bodywork travalling upwards

I've got them. my drive is very steep and if I take the slightest wrong angle, the plates take the scrape. Also good when parking nose first as the fang is angled from ffront down to back. Bloody expensive for some bits of metal though. I was going to have a run made, but there was limited interest sadly. :?

i have them and like wooter they have saved my fangs i fitted them after damaging a fang on day 6 of ownership got it repaired at bmw and then showed them the plates - they said they look great why didnt bmw fit a scrape mounting as the car is so low i would reccommend them ok a bit pricey but better that than a tatty front end just my 2p worth anyway

Better yet, cover the underside and leading edge with some Invisible Bra material. The thicker the better. The mylar will be sacrificed instead of the bumper and can be renewed as needed.

Won't the bolts hit the floor before the skid plate? If that's the case, why not just fit some bolts :P
