BMW Z4 CONVERSION TO Z4 M ?

Hi,

I would like to ask if it is possible to convert a Z4 E85 to Z4 M? What parts do the cars have different? The chassis is the the same on both cars?

I have read that the cars have different engines, body kits, wheels, exhausts, steering type. What else do they have different?
They reason i ask is because i want to buy a car like that has been converted like this and i would like to see if it worths buying it and what i have to watch out before i buy it.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Brakes are very different. Rear differential. Front suspension/wishbone. The battery is in the boot so the floorpan is different. Bonnet.

Wouldn't anywhere near to cost effective. I assume you're doing it to get around tax/emissions regulations. If so, the supercharger route would probably much more suitable for you (though you'd have to check how it would affect your insurance liabilitiles, obviously).

Also the DSC operation - it is on or off on the M. The rev counter has staged warning lights. Sport button - only changes the throttle response.

Personally, I wouldn't bother.

Dont always assume that car prices are the same everywhere as in the UK.

To my non-Greek speaking friends i just mentioned that theoretically it could be done but the cost would be far too high. It's got different front suspension, a rear LSD, different brakes which are not interchangeable with non-Ms, different electronics, engine and gearbox, different exhaust system with a second set of mufflers to the right where the battery is on non-Ms meaning it would have to be moved, different front hood, and front and rear bumpers and i'm sure several other things that escape me. It'd probably be best if he could get a Greek registered 2.2 or 3.0 and go for a supercharger.

Do you mean you want to find a car like this (and a proper conversion of the sort you seek would be very unlikely to exist) or that you have found one (in which case it needs checking against all the points made here?).....

Hey the battery on my facelift four-pot is in the boot - does that mean I own that most desirable of vehicles, the 2.0//M??!! Wow! :P

well. that is to say, in a well LOL :)

Best idea would be to supercharge a 3.0litre fit coilovers, upgraded brakes and a diff and you won't be too far off.

The main difference aside from the power would be the hydrolic steering on the M... vs the electric on the standard... so personally i would just get an M - or import one!

I love that: I guess there's no translation for "supercharger" in Greek?

(no offence meant)

That's like listening to a Gaelic broadcast (for Scotland based members!).

A UK insurance company would probably have you bent over for the premium on a car modified to an M spec compared to just the M in the first place.

M-spec...

Hmmm, rear diff, rear prop shafts, rear suspensions (all parts give or take), rear bumper, front bumper, wheels, tyres, rear brakes, bonnet, seats (probably), steering is hydraulic not electric, ECU, front struts, front lower wishbones (pretty sure), front brakes, engine, badges, whole exhaust system, dash gauge binnacle (8000rpm version, higher top speed etc), steering wheel.

The ECU swapping issues, changing to hydraulic steering vs electric, and any ABS/ESP related issues, would be enough time in labour costs to make it un-viable before you go any further imo.

The only thing you'd really keep is the bare shell and basic interior carpet and dash bits, and I think the gearbox itself (but not the prop or clutch iirc)

The rest all needs swapping. I can't ever imagine it being cheaper to convert than to just buy a proper M car.

Supercharging isn't even that cheap really as you'd want a diff and bigger brakes to make it better before you consider m-sport seats and stuff too.
