I recently (OK, nearly a year ago!) bought a set of M wheels that had been painted black. I finally got around to putting them on the car today, and I'm curious what people think of them.

The car is Monaco Blue, and I've included "before" and "after" photographs below. Unfortunately it was daylight when I started and dark when I finished, so the photos of the black wheels were taken with flash, which shows up the brake disks and makes the wheels look deeper. But take it from me that the wheels are identical apart from the colour (and where the kerbing marks are!)

Black and blue IMO isnt a very aesthetic combo. Theres not enough contrast, they look lost.

But each to their own, I dont think the light is very flattering.

OEM all the way

I have pretty much the same color with the car and rims,and I was wondering what other color would fit that blue?! (;

I have to agree with above... The silver does look better... you need something to break them up (such as a silver lip on the wheels)

But that being said it probably looks better in real life then the pic.

And if you like them then

I've been lightly toying with the idea of refinishing my 224's. similar to OP my car is carbon black (so looks a dark blue). What colour rims would suit it, hyper silver, shadow chrome?? Or just keep silver?

I'm with the majority black doesn't look right

I think it can be done. I think the black and blue can work as on my car (although mine is Carbon Blackits blue in the light) but then i am biased. Definitely better than plain silver CH's on a Z4M and i think CSL wheels are too common.

Alternatively the 1M wheels would look awesome (style 359's?) but then again these options cost quite a bit more money although if you purchased new wheels and sold your Z4M wheels the difference is probably a few hundred pounds.

honestly i think youve not done the black rims a favour by posting that terrible pic and they look pretty shite... in the light with better positioning i think theyd look nice.... the photo is too bad for us to judge imo....

As per beedub - photo again but turn the flash off and hold it steady :)

Sadly i don't like black wheels on many cars - there was an e46 M3 that had black rims with silver rim and black roof ( http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showpost.php?p=2593219&postcount=1 ) that i did like, that was teh car that got me onto M3's and then Z4's.. and probably why i have an imola M coupe now..

But that's a complex concoction of mods that mean the black suits it. My vote is for silver.

I can't think of many cars, (if any tbh), that look better with black wheels. They look awful.

White, yellow or red can look ok, and even then it depends on the finish and style of the wheels.

Agree with Beedub - better photo required

I think my yellow Elise looked awesome with black wheels, far better than it did with silver.

Generally I think you need contrast, though my Carbon Black Z looks pretty good with dark, not quite black, wheels.
