If you want a softer ride you can always size up the profile and size down on the width to help try and prevent rubbing.
The harsh ride on the m sport suspension can be an issue with potholes and rough roads.

" 225 on a 8j stretched " ? its classed as the ideal size & bear in mind the 215 suggestion is with a 45 profile as opposed to a 40 so there is no issue with it looking the least bit out of place or " stretched "Panta Rhei wrote: ↑Sun Jul 31, 2022 8:20 am 225/40/18 on a 8J rim is streched so watch out for 215.
As a reference - 255 on a 8,5J is a 100% perfect match with tyre being nearly rectangular from behind. Perfect rim protection also, but more importantly - the looks!
Leave streched tyres to Civic owners.

245 ona a 8J
275 on a 9J
I'll need to save this list somewhere for the next time I have to get new rubber.mr wilks wrote: ↑Sun Jul 31, 2022 8:35 am" 225 on a 8j stretched " ? its classed as the ideal size & bear in mind the 215 suggestion is with a 45 profile as opposed to a 40 so there is no issue with it looking the least bit out of place or " stretched "Panta Rhei wrote: ↑Sun Jul 31, 2022 8:20 am 225/40/18 on a 8J rim is streched so watch out for 215.

Less common sizes are more expensive!
That's why I'm such a commoner then, I prefer the cheaper tyres! Thanks for your feedback!
Car manufacturers strike deals with tyre companies so they keep making tyres for their cars for the normal life of the car.Griffo46 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 31, 2022 9:13 am All great ideas for utilising different tyres sizes. I’m shocked by the price difference of these tyres, for example, I went on to a tyre site, picked a standard tyre and then looked at all 3 sizes that I’d be interested in.
Michelin Pilot sport 4 - 225/40/18 = £107 each
Michelin pilot sport 4 - 215/40/18 = £161 each
Michelin pilot sport 4 - 215/45/18 = £174 each
The cheapest tyre above is the existing tyre size I already have on the car, so I may opt for that one. Why would that size be so cheaper?
Nice update and great to hear how they have transformed your ride quality. They are on my to do list, can’t wait tbh!WouterZZZZ wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 9:43 am Fellow Z4 fans, I just mounted Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tyres 225/45/17 94Y in extra load (XL) type. In one word: fantastic! Direct steering, sticky to the road, acceptable noise, very good feedback. No tramlining or whatsoever.
The stiffer side walls because of the XL, make the car very good to handle in corners. A very nice tyre to see (!), but that is off course a matter of ‘personal taste’.
These tyres can absorbate and transform the 265 horse powers to the road at ease.
At last they are comfortable as well despite the XL.
