Tyres cracking

Post by Mr Tidy » Tue Jan 02, 2024 9:00 pm

My sister bought a 3 year old Fiat 500 with Pirelli run-flats and there were advisories for cracking on all 4 tyres when it had its first MOT. :o

The Kumhos on my Z4 are only 2 and a half years old but are free from cracking so far. :)
Coupes because stunning!
Current - Silver Grey MC, Imola Red heated Nappa & carbon trim. Aeros, H & R Coil-overs, 224s, OE Strut brace, Nav, cup-holders, DSP Hi-Fi, pdc, cruise, MFSW, no CDV! E90 330i daily
Gone - Montego Blue
Gone - Ruby Black

Which Kumhos are they please? I saw you had these on another thread but I can't find it now  .
Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.

They are Kumho Ecsta PS71. FWIW I've found them fine even on a "spirited" run.

Nothing wrong with Kumho Ecstas IME. They are a Summer tyre really (but so are most TBH) but I found them very good. Price is mid range. If you can find a tyre garage which are a big dealer for any make you should find them at better prices. I have a Kumho "dealer" near me and they were 15% cheaper than anywhere else.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!

Despite being a summer tyre they are far better in colder weather than the hopeless MPSS tyres is came on!

I got my set of 4 from Black Circles for just under £400 delivered which seemed a bit of a bargain. As they were going on refurbed wheels fitting was included in the cost of the refurb.

When I got another front wheel to take as a spare on a road trip a local Kumho stockist charged me £105 for a single 225/45 x 18 but that included fitting so much the same sort of cost. :)

They do seem to be quite a good price and that’s now 2 votes for them

I think it's 3 because I bought them based on a recommendation by mr_wilks.

One of our forum colleagues has recently fitted some Kumhos..he’s very happy relative to OE runflats..on an E89..
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

B21 is referring to me as I changed from runflats to the latest Kumho tyres in July 23 and found them quieter along with good grip in wet or dry conditions.Time will tell how long they last but they were well priced.

Yes they are well priced and Asda has £10.00 off for 2 at the moment.

Relative to runflats :D :?
As Einstein once said 'its all relative'...

So I chose my words carefully..is the Khumo the ultimate ultra high performance tire for a 500 bhp rear wheel drive hooner..er no..

Is it a good tire for a 250 bhp rear wheel car not driven on the ragged edge..absolutely..

Is it much better than the OE Potenza run flats...by a long way.,.under any circumstances..

Then it will be even better for a 170bhp rear wheel drive car never driven on the ragged edge  and when I get a flat or cracks they will be cheaper to replace. Just the job. All I need to do now is hope they don't go up in price before I wear down my last 1mm to the legal limit   Thanks to you all, I would never have bought Khumo as I had never heard of them before
