E89 Seats- help please

Post by bigwinn » Thu Feb 22, 2024 6:23 pm

Righty- update time

Credit to
AnubisZed
for his assistance... Dave you are a gent!

Plan A- with Daves remote assistance use NCS to code the seat movement in- failed as my version of NCS wouldn't progress past a certain point.

Plan B- Dave with laptop arrived on site and coded the car- success. Apart from the seats still didn't move.

FFS

So we investigated further and opened up the seat and car yellow plugs to check the pins all align.

On the passenger seat- bingo, one of the major higher rated wires had no feed- so by applying power to it we successfully managed to get a movable seat! Game on!

So same principle on the drivers side became more complex- in that this seat has just 2 higher rated voltage wires and 2 can bus wires- here we discovered that the pins to the +ve driver needed changing to a powered pin from the car, however there is no can bus feed from the car.

At that point we had to call it a day as I had no appropriate wire with me- but I plan to now jump the can bus feed from the passenger side or the radio to finish the exercise off

Lessons learned today:

On E89 cars with functions like electric seats NOT fitted from factory, the loom is NOT in place
Facelift to non facelift seats have different pin configurations

Onward!

Also- we surmised that the coding would only have helped the memory functions on the seat, if I had resolved the power supply issue first the seats would have moved but memory functions would not have worked

In addition- the E85 heated seat fallback fault check is not the same on E89- the switches lit up to say 'circuit OK' but they didn't heat up??? On an E85 the lights would have gone out within a second to say open circuit

So much on E89s is a mixture of coding support and things that look like E89 E85 but have just been tweaked a little..can be very infuriating…
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…
A very modified Atacama Yellow 35is

Well at least I have got one seat that moves. Great work and lots of patience from Stuart and Dave. Watching them work and discuss the issues was like listening to a foreign language. It certainly showed where there are deficiencies in my education.
We are really lucky to have access to this level of expertise.

You’re sure you didn’t sabotage the seats just to add a bit of a challenge for Stuart? 😀
